GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Performs responsible work oversees daily onsite operations of the Firing Range Complex and ensures continuity by overseeing the operations of the Firearms Training Facility. This position is assigned to the Services Division and reports directly to the Services Division Commander.  The Range Master.

Hours will vary based on need, generally Monday through Thursday and occasionally on Friday. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Directs the operation of the Firearms Training Facility
  • It is required that you possess previous law enforcement firearms experience and training.  
  • Oversees supply delivery.
  • Maintains proper record keeping, inventorying, and assist with the ordering of supplies.
  • Ensures paperwork (score sheets/sign-in sheets/range safety rules) are done correctly and in CALEA compliance and turned in to the Academy Director
  • Ensures adequate instructors are available during range activities to maintain a safe environment and provide a sufficient level of instruction to individual shooters.
  • Assists firearms instructors with classroom lecture and range activities.

REQUIREMENTS/PREFERENCES

Education Required: 
High School Diploma or Equivalent  

Experience Required: 
Three (3) years related experience.  

Certifications/ Licenses:
Must possess a valid Virginia driver's license and have a good driving record.  Must be a Virginia DCJS Certified Firearms Instructor or be able to obtain the certification upon being hired. Must be a Virginia DCJS Certified General Instructor or be able to obtain the Certification upon being hired.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • General knowledge of the operation of pickup trucks, dump trucks and trailers and motorized maintenance equipment and manual tools
  • General knowledge of traffic rules and regulations as related to the operation of maintenance vehicles.
  • General knowledge in the use and care of common hand, electric and gas-powered tools.
  • Ability to understand and follow specific oral and written instructions. safety labels, and warnings
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions relating to the safe usage of tools, chemicals, and other materials
  • Ability to organize and perform maintenance functions independently without worksite supervision.
  • Perform range support functions under the direction of the Services Commander
  • Provide training support as a DCJS Firearms Instructor
  • Perform range and target maintenance.
  • Assist with coordination of range resources among members agencies.
  • Assist outside agencies with range resources and provide an onsite point of contact when situations develop
Additional Requirements: 
Successful applicant must not have been convicted of any criminal offenses and will undergo a background investigation and Polygraph examination to determine suitability for the position. May be subject to DMV driving record review as required by amount of work-related driving, specified by support responsibilities. Must also be able to perform the job as described in the Physical and Environmental Demands section of this job description.

Hours: Monday – Thursday,
Position is considered Part time and permitted to work up to 1508 hours in a fiscal year.
