Job Duties

POSITION DUTIES:
Responsible for operation and maintenance of the King County Enterprise Network (KC WAN), the Inter-Governmental Network (IGN) and Transport and Internet Services Network (INet). Perform high/low level network design, configuration, installation, troubleshooting and support for King County Local Area Networks (LAN), Wide Area Networks (WAN), Intergovernmental Network (IGN), and Transport and Internet Services Networks (INet) which services King County government and independent government organizations support by contract. Design and develop integration strategies for technologies, networks, and systems. Provide support of existing networks, including configuring a range of Cisco routers and switches, wireless, remote access, Adva optical ethernet, and other wide area network devices and services. Troubleshoot WAN/LAN issues such as latency and connectivity problems. Provide support and design to compliance efforts. Provide analysis, trending, and utilization reporting. Create and maintain appropriate technical documentation and configurations. Participate in projects, work collaboratively with project managers, customers, and team members, and collect, analyze and summarize project information.

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or the foreign degree equivalent*, and five years of experience performing Enterprise-level network engineering. *In lieu of a Bachelor's degree, will accept two additional years of experience performing Enterprise-level network engineering.

This experience must include the following:
  • 2 years of experience with DWDM & optical transport and transceiver
  • 2 years of experience working on wireless networks
  • 1 year of experience with Design/QC core network solution
  • 1 year of experience managing core network capacity
  • 1 year of experience undertaking fault investigations on enterprise data networks
  • 2 years of experience documenting and enforcing system standards
  • 2 years of experience with network devices and services including routers and switches
  • 1 year of experience with risk analysis and mitigation, when dealing with change management
  • 1 year reading and understanding network & connectivity designs including as-built documentation
  • 2 years System engineering, test and link analysis skills with vendor-specific tools including OSA, OTDR, and Power meter
  • 2 years utilizing knowledge of industry standards and fiber/fiber management
Experience may be gained concurrently. Employer will accept any suitable combination of education, experience, or training.

Supplemental Information

LOCATION OF EMPLOYMENT:
40 hours/week in Seattle, WA with some telecommuting required.

SALARY: $106,326.69 to $134,775.47 per year

The work associated with this position will be performed through a combination of teleworking complemented with onsite work and meetings as needed. Employees will have access to shared workspaces at various King County facilities. Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.

Employees will be provided with a County issued laptop and must maintain a workspace with an internet connection (access may be supplemented in some situations) where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours. Please note that when an employee conducts work that is likely to bring them in contact with another individual, safety precautions are required, including the wearing of masks in some situations .
