Summary


 The King County's Facilities Management Division (FMD), Building Operations Section (BOS) is looking to hire career minded journey level Electricians for our Security Electronics crew and Facility Maintenance crew. These positions will perform the full scope of journey-level electrician work.   A Washington State General Journeyman-01 license is required for our facilities electrian role.   For our Security Electronics role, we are looking for someone with security knowledge and experience.

Through a workforce of over 300 dedicated employees, the FMD operates and manages the County's capital assets by developing and maintaining cost-conscious, sustainable, high-quality facilities, and environments. The BOS provides custodial services, maintenance and building operations, as well as building security. BOS is committed to providing high quality service to effectively and efficiently support and maintain buildings and their occupants.
 
BOS maintains approximately 3 million square feet in facilities where King County provides regional services, including the King County Courthouse, District Courts, King County Correctional Facility, Children and Family Justice Center, Maleng Regional Justice Center, King County Administration Building, King County Animal Shelter, and several Public Health facilities. Our facilities range in age from 1 to 100 years, with equipment such as boilers, chillers, DDC controls, ventilation fans, pumps and compressors, and fire/life/safety systems.

Job Duties

We have two different opportunities currently available, the job duties for each are listed below:

Facilities Maintenance Crew

  • Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical problems.
  • Maintain equipment and perform preventative maintenance according to manufacturer's recommendations and warranty requirements.
  • Identify preventative maintenance needs and make recommendations.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical components of security, building operations, and life safety systems. Install light fixtures.
  • Install secondary service wiring in and between buildings. Install low voltage wiring systems in buildings.
  • Read construction documents and estimate cost and resource requirements. Verify that all electrical equipment and circuits are working within specification. Other duties as assigned.
 
Security Electronics Crew
  • Perform journey level electrical maintenance and installation tasks as assigned on Security, Life Safety Systems, and other low voltage related systems.
  • Coordinate with contractors, County Trades, and others when necessary.
  • Assist in the organization and implementation of preventative maintenance program tasks; carry out preventative maintenance plans and schedules for low voltage related work and associated components.
  • Appropriately and effectively utilize established computerized systems and software to communicate; document work and related issues; schedule and monitor work performance and expenditures; access work-related information.
  • Assist in the development of estimates for labor and materials on proposed jobs. Maintain in-house Electrical parts/materials inventory levels.
  • Maintain as built electrical drawing sets for modified / added low voltage systems. Assess quality and quantity performance measures within the scope of the position take corrective measures as needed to address performance issues. For issues outside the scope of responsibilities report issues to appropriate level in the chain of command.

Facilities Maintenance Crew

  • Possess (and maintain) a valid Washington State General Journeyman-01 license. Have journey-level knowledge of and skills in the electrical trade.
  • Have a thorough knowledge of:
  • Methods, practices, materials and tools of the electrical trade. Hazards and safety precautions necessary in the electrical trade. National Electric Code.
  • Possess past professional experience in:
  • Using and caring for the tools, machinery, and equipment of the electrical trade.
  • Reading blueprints and schematics. Troubleshooting methods and techniques. Installing complete electrical systems.
  • Reading and interpreting instrumentation.
  • Repairing, troubleshooting and maintaining electrical systems and equipment. Technical reading and writing skills.
 
Security Electronics Crew
  • Have experience performing the work of a journey-level security installer / low voltage electrician and be able to work independently or with other electricians, or in a composite team with other tradecrafts.
  • Have the ability to communicate and synthesize complex ideas and concepts effectively in multiple settings with a diverse audience.
  • Are customer – focused in building and maintaining positive relationships with multiple stakeholders and team members.
  • Are able to use Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook. Have skill in problem-solving.

Supplemental Information

ADDITIONAL POSITION INFORMATION:

  • The selected applicant must possess a valid Washington State driver's license or the ability to travel throughout King County in a timely manner in a variety of County vehicles.
  • Final appointment is contingent upon successfully passing a thorough federal and county background investigation and clearing a pre-employment physical examination.
  • These positions report to the King County Courthouse in Downtown Seattle, however, may be relocated to other locations such as the Maleng Regional Justice Center in Kent, WA. Both locations are Monday – Friday, schedules are below:
    • Downtown Seattle: 6:55 a.m. – 3:25 p.m.
    • Maleng Regional Justice Center: 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
  • These positions are non-exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and are therefore overtime eligible.
  • Employees are paid on a bi-weekly schedule, every other Thursday, comprising a 40-hour workweek; schedule and work location are to be determined.
  • This position is required to be on a paid rotating standby list for non-business hours and as needed coverage.
  • Incumbents in these positions are represented by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 46.
  • This position has been designated by department leadership as a FIRST RESPONDER in the event of a proclaimed emergency. Meaning this position has a role in emergency response and is responsible for the protection and preservation of life, property, evidence, environment and/or restoration of order.
This recruitment is an effort to fill current vacant positions and create a list for any future Electrician position of any type that become available in the next 12 months. .
