As a Software Engineer, you will work on an Agile development team building, testing and deploying great clinical decisions services for our customers.  You will design Natural Language Processing (NLP) product capabilities intended to increase clinician efficiency and improve patient outcomes.   

 

NLP Software Engineer engages with team members on the use of machine learning to build or improve NLP technology that we integrate with the production search engine.  They regularly work with product stakeholders on projects with engaging innovations in mind.  For the right candidate who’s knowledgeable about model architectures, text representation, and machine learning, we offer rewarding and challenging projects as well as a highly engaging work environment. 

 

What you’ll do 

  • Explore proven and relatively uncharted NLP areas to create complex and highly actionable clinical decisions services. 

  • Direct proper annotated datasets for supervised learning techniques.  Use effective text representation techniques to develop useful devices. 

  • Train developed NLP models and evaluate their effectiveness.  Conduct characteristic analyses of models and adjust models where possible. 

  • Provide expertise and leadership on system architecture, design, implementation, testing, delivery, and operation of premium EBSCO products. 

  • Work directly with product management and your team while analyzing and decomposing complex software capabilites into simple user stories for planning and execution. 

  • Mentor other engineers on the team in broad areas including coding, design for performance and testability, and process. 

  • Assist other agile teams as a key representative of the team/features/technology. 

  • Own system and feature quality throughout the development, testing and deployment phases to ensure quality delivery expectations are met. 

  • Provide ongoing maintenance, support and enhancements in delivered components and platforms. 

  • As a member of an Agile development team, you will design, develop and demonstrate software in 1- or 2-week iterations as part of an Agile Release Train developing to a SAFe Program Increment. You will agree on commitments to the business and meet those commitments as a team. You will strive for continuous improvement in knowledge and productivity as well as display a pattern of continual learning and a desire to broaden your software development and design skills. 

 

Skills or experience you need 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, MIS, Computer Engineering or other Technical related degree or equivalent experience.  

  • At least one year of experience as a natural language processing engineer. 

  • Knowledge of data structures, semantic extraction, and modeling. 

  • Knowledge of text representation (e.g., n-grams, sentiment analysis, bag of words, etc.) 

  • Familiarity with Java, R, or Python. 

  • Familiarity with machine learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, keras, etc.) 

  • Proficiency with source code management tools such as git. 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills   

 

Skills or experience that sets you apart 

  • Advanced Degree in Computer Science, MIS, Computer Engineering or other Technical related degree.  

  • Working knowledge specific to medical ontologies (RxNorm, SnoMed CT) and coding standards (ICD 10/11). 

  • 3+ years of experience in multiple of the following areas: 

  • Test Driven Development (TDD) and Automated Testing with JUnit, Load Runner, Jmeter, etc.  

  • DevOps or automated software deployment. 

  • Working on an Agile team. 

  • Microservices and microservice design patterns.  

  • Automated integration, acceptance, and/or contract driven tests scenarios.  

  • Performance testing strategies and techniques.
