Focus is on developing multiple types/categories of software including end-user applications and operating systems/utility software, that provides a platform for running end user applications for sale to external customers. The Durham-based office of EBSCO Information Services is looking to further grow by adding a Senior Software Engineer to our development team. This engineer will work as part of an agile (SAFE) team to develop “green field” projects focused on designing, architecting, and building our core software products onto the Amazon Web Services (AWS) platform. Mobile app development will be the initial focus and preferred candidates will be fluent in JavaScript, React Native, Objective-C and Java.

 

Key responsibilities include:

  • To work with a team on design, implementation, testing and delivery of high-volume customer-facing mobile applications that support EBSCO’s products and services.
  • To collaborate with product management and your team while analyzing and decomposing complex software features into simpler stories for planning and execution.
  • To collaborate with your team to manage and estimate the size and complexity of the features/stories.  Perform the technical design, implementation, and testing of feature/stories and commit to what can be accomplished within an iteration.
  • To own system and feature quality throughout the development, testing and deployment phases to ensure quality delivery expectations are met.
  • To make suggestions to continuously improve the quality of the team’s deliverables.
  • To conduct new technology research, proof of concept, and design work that will provide direction for the enhancement of the overall system and products.
  • To adhere to software engineering best practices for design, coding standards, performance, security, accessibility, delivery, and maintainability.
  • To demonstrate ownership of team’s components from development through production.

 

Required Skills:

  • 4+ years of professional front-end or full-stack development experience.
  • Must be proficient developing with JavaScript.
  • Must be proficient developing using a front-end framework; React is preferred, but AngularJS, VueJS or another front-end framework would be acceptable.
  • Must be proficient using Git version control.
  • Bachelors Degree

 

Desired Skills:

  • 2+ years of professional experience developing and supporting mobile applications.
  • 2+ years of React Native development experience.
  • Proficient developing with Typescript or, at minimum, have a solid understanding of the basics, what it is, and why it’s useful.
  • Proficient developing with Redux or, at minimum, a solid understanding of the basics, what it is, and why it’s useful.
  • Testing framework experience -- Jest is ideal, but other frameworks are such as Appium, Espresso, Mocha, or Chai would be beneficial.
  • Prior experience in a CI/CD environment and working with AWS services would also be helpful.
  • Experience with a production mobile application and solid understanding of iOS and Android app deployment procedures -- store deployment (iOS App Store and/or Android Google Playstore), enterprise deployment, certificates, and provisioning profiles.
  • Knowledge of iOS and Android local storage paradigms (user defaults, keychain storage, core data).
  • Bonus points for experience developing in Objective-C and/or Java.
