Editorial Assistant (part-time 25 hours a week)
An Editorial Assistant for the USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin, based in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, is a role that’s perfect for someone looking to gain experience to grow into a full-time position or is looking for an opportunity to write and report on their community.
Duties include:
•Writing news briefs and compiling calendars, briefs packages and list stories
•Writing one feature story per week minimum; more if time allows
•Using content management software to push stories into print and online
•Monitoring and keeping tidy newsroom email inboxes
•Communicating with producers and designers via email and messenger, as well as editor and reporters, to avoid duplication of work
•Other duties and special projects, as assigned
Candidate must have:
•A firm grasp of AP style and the ability to learn the news organizations’ style
•Ability to write clearly and cleanly, and to do effective research on a variety of general-interest topics
•Ability to type cleanly and quickly, as well as find and correct errors in existing text
•Able to function under daily deadlines to produce daily and weekly publications
•Customer service skills to communicate with the public
•Ability to work with teams at other sites and clearly communicate your needs
•Comfort with Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.), willingness and ability to learn news-related software as needed
•Excellent time-management skills and a drive to organize content.
