Apprenticeship Program
The South Bend and Vicinity Plumbers & Pipefitters Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee will be accepting applications for the Apprenticeship Program starting Monday, January 15, 2024 through Friday, January 26, 2024 from 8:30a.m. to 11:30a.m and 1:30p.m. to 4:30p.m
The Minimum Requirements for all Applicants are as follows:
All applicants must apply in person at the JATC office. Once application is completed including providing the minimum required documents listed below, an interview will be scheduled with the Plumbers & Pipefitters Interviewing Committee:
1. - Applicants shall be at least 18 years of age and submit reliable proof of birth date.
Education Requirements: High School Diploma or GED Certificate
High School Graduate: You must request from your high school an Official Transcript of your high school records including subjects, grades, credits and attendance to be mailed directly to:

We will accept a hand carried transcript with the school’s official sealed envelope. It will be the applicant’s responsibility to check with their high school to make certain the official transcript has been sent to the JATC.
Note: Applicants may be high school seniors provided they submit a copy of their transcripts showing at least 3½ years of completed schooling. The applicant must also submit a letter from the school verifying that they are maintaining passing grades and are scheduled to graduate in the spring or early summer of 2024.
GED: You must mail or hand-carry a copy of your GED test scores to the JATC.
2. - If you are a veteran you must provide a copy of your DD-214.
3. - You must submit a copy of your driver’s license at the time of your application. Any applicant selected into the Apprenticeship Program must maintain a valid driver’s license throughout the term of their apprenticeship.
4. - All applicants will be required to take the Work Keys Assessment Test that will be administered by the Indiana Department of Workforce Development (http://www.workoneworks.com/). Applicants must meet set minimum levels in all tests given by February 23rd, 2024 to be eligible for the 2024-2025 program year.
5. - All applicants may be subject to a criminal background check.
6. - Accepted applicants must adhere to the ISPTA/MCAI Substance Abuse Policy.

Training for the Future
The UA Training Program has been training the most highly qualified piping industry workers in the United States and Canada for more than a century. In addition to five-year apprenticeship programs, the United Association offers continuing education opportunities that include journeyman training and certifications, as well as an associate degree program through a partnership with Ivy Tech Community College.
The UA Apprenticeship Program teaches through both classroom and on-the-job training in what is considered by many to be the best construction industry apprentice program in the world. It's a five-year program that motivates apprentices to learn a challenging and rewarding trade while upholding the ideals of trade unionism.
The UA Journeyman Program is for craftsmen ready to make a serious commitment to a lifetime of learning and advancing their skills through continuous learning programs offered by the United Association.
UA Certification Programs include valve repair, medical gas installation, welding, CFC removal, and instrumentation. UA craftsmen who go through the certification program find they are in demand as some of the best skilled workers in the industry.
Associate in Applied Science Degree Programs are offered through UA's partnership with Ivy Tech Community College. The program combines field experience, distance learning, CD ROM technology, the Internet, classroom instructors, and work experience to give indentured apprentices and journeymen of the United Association an opportunity to apply their work in a trade specialty toward an Associate Degree in Industrial Training or Construction Supervision. Students will complete general education courses and receive credit life experience in an area of specialization such as plumbing, pipefitting, refrigeration fitting or sprinkler fitting.
