Kootenai Tribe of Idaho – Wildlife Ecologist

Responsibilities:
The project Manager will assist Wildlife Division Manager with planning, development, and
implementation of long-term wildlife habitat restoration, and manage research studies to
evaluate and analyze ecologically-based projects in the Kootenai River watershed. Proactively
utilize ecological information regarding floodplain/riverine processes and native terrestrial
communities in the enhancement and management of fish and wildlife habitats.
Knowledge and Skills:
Excellent skills in communication (both oral and written), report writing, statistical data analysis,
botanical and avian surveys, and aptitude in ArcMap are required. Ability to supervise,
coordinate and work collectively with a diverse range of individuals and Kootenai Fish and
Wildlife staff. Knowledge and understanding of terrestrial ecology, bird vocalizations, botanical
ID, and proficiency with relational databases and statistical software is required. Additionally, an
understanding and knowledge of Kootenai Tribal (Ktunaxa) history is a desired attribute.
Qualifications:
Requires a B.S. degree in natural resource management (or closely related field) and 5 years of
related professional experience or a M.S. degree in natural resource management (or closely
related field) and 3 year of related professional experience. Must pass drug test, have a valid
driver’s license and be tribally insurable. Also, position will be required to obtain a valid passport
within the 90 day probationary period.
Pay/Salary:
$24 - $29 per hour DOE, plus competitive benefits

Kootenai Tribe of Idaho – Wildlife Biologist

Responsibilities:
This position will require coordination with the Fish and Wildlife Department managers to assist
in project implementation of wildlife habitat restoration of floodplain/riparian processes and
functions, mitigate fish and wildlife habitats, ongoing operations and maintenance of the
mitigation areas, protect and conserve wildlife on Kootenai Tribe of Idaho ancestral lands.
Knowledge and Skills:
Implementation of wildlife habitat projects to protect, mitigate, and enhance fish and wildlife
habitats on lands within the Kootenai Tribe of Idaho aboriginal territory. Supports the Wildlife
Division in wildlife habitat restoration, based on native fish and wildlife requirements (i.e.,
ecological and floodplain/riverine processes), and weed management to improve wildlife
program efficiency. Organize, schedule and implement natural resource surveys (i.e., botanical
and population data) on mitigation projects, and includes monitoring and evaluation of wildlife
habitat. Assists the Wildlife Division in the organization, scheduling, training and guidance of
wildlife technicians and seasonal employees.
