Job Duties | Morgan State University (MSU) invites applications and nominations for the position of Department Chair for the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering in the Clarence M. Mitchell, Jr. School of Engineering (SOE). As the pre-eminent, public urban research university and a National Treasure located in the state of Maryland, MSU plays a vital role providing educational opportunities for its residents, for students nation-wide and for the international community. Reporting to Dean Oscar Barton, Jr. and working collaboratively with SOE’s leadership, the Chair will define a vision that will chart new areas of opportunity for the department and will provide the leadership and an entrepreneurship spirit necessary to achieve them. The Chair will manage all operations of the department including those related to its offered programs, for its faculty, for its staff and those related to budget and finance. This 12 month, tenured appointment is at the rank of full professor. We are accepting applications on a rolling basis. Responsibilities: The Chair is the academic and administrative officer for the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering with responsibilities that include but are not limited to the following:

To carry out that mission, the University seeks energetic, visionary, and transformational leaders. The Clarence M. Mitchell Jr. School of Engineering houses the Civil Engineering department. It has consistently graduated the most African American Civil Engineering students in the state of Maryland. The undergraduate civil engineering program is competitive in technological breadth and depth with any undergraduate civil engineering program in the country. All students receive instruction in the following areas of study: environmental, geotechnical, hydraulic, structural and transportation engineering. Requested Minimum Qualifications | The successful candidate must have a terminal degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline from an accredited college or university. In addition, the candidate must currently hold the rank of full professor or promotable to this rank by virtue of their professional and academic achievements. A record consisting of accomplishments towards excellence in teaching, of productivity in research and scholarship, and of demonstrated engagement in leadership and administration are essential in this role. |
