Overview

ATSS Group has a client in Panama City Beach, FL looking for an experienced Electrical Engineer. 

 

POSITION SUMMARY

Responsible for providing engineering services during the proposal, design, construction, and warranty of marine vessels. Plays a critical role in the delivery of technical solutions, acting in support of the design calculations and drawing development, etc. as they pertain to each vessel.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Regular attendance at work and the ability to work flexible hours, including overtime, weekends, and holidays.
Assist Electrical Engineering Group Manager in resolving issues with regard to day to day operations.
Assist Electrical Engineering Group Manager in meeting production schedule, maintaining resources and training needs within the Dept.
Evaluate and analyze data regarding electric power systems and stations and recommend changes to improve operating efficiency. Plan layout of electric power generating plants, distribution lines and stations.
Perform detailed calculations to facilitate manufacturing, construction, and installation, as well as to secure approvals by classification societies and coast guard using standards, rules/regulations, and specifications. Calculations include the use of EasyPower software.
Review electrical documents, diagrams, and analyses; making changes/corrections as needed.
Provide technical direction, serve as a point of contact or liaison, prepare briefings for senior management, and assist in problem resolution specific to the project.
Provide detailed plans of action and deficiency reports to support the project objectives and schedules.
Prepare construction planning support activities.
Produce detailed drawings and work with 3D models.
Oversee the integration of the electrical engineering design in Production and work closely with the Company’s Project Managers, Superintendents, and Electricians.
Conduct onboard surveys.
Perform other duties as instructed.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Directly and/or indirectly supervise employees assigned to the Engineering Dept. Responsibilities may include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work. Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be required.
Job Requirements
REQUIREMENTS

Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering plus seven or more years of experience in the design/construction of marine vessels desired. A Professional Engineer (PE) license highly desired but not required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Requires experience in the design, repair and analysis of power engineering as the major focus of the job but also in electronic systems as they pertain to controls, communication, and navigation, including fiber optics.

Skills: Understanding of fundamental ship operations, including propulsion and dynamic positioning, the basic principles of marine engineering, structure and naval architecture. Experience with high power AC and DC systems, electric propulsion, medium and low voltage installations. Intermediate to Advanced level Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Project, and AutoCAD required. Familiarity with FORAN, Ship Constructor, and EasyPower software is desired but not required. Ability to interpret classification society rules, coast guard regulations, IEEE, IEC and other standards, contract requirements and specifications. Ability to conduct load analyses, fault current analyses, protection coordination studies, battery calculations, arc flash hazard analyses, harmonic studies, EMC assessments, risk and reliability evaluations. Ability to determine the size of electrical cables, panels, circuit breakers, transformers, switches, motor starters, rectifiers, frequency converters, switchboards and other components comprising a Power or Lighting distribution system. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management and government officials. Must have accurate written and verbal communication skills to carry out and understand assignments, and/or convey or exchange routine information. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment as a team player.
