This position provides many opportunities for growth including the opportunity to develop a new team, shape the new team, and establish this new function within the division.  

The EIB Manager will champion the development and implementation of a systematic approach to Equity and Social Justice (ESJ). The position will work in collaboration with the department and other division EIB Managers. The position is characterized by division-wide planning and coordination within the division and department of thoughtfully designed and sequenced critical actions to implement our ESJ Strategic Plan.

What You Will be Doing: 
  • Lead division-wide Equity and Social Justice (ESJ) work, including ESJ Strategic Plan implementation and regularly partnering with the DNRP Directors Office, and with the Office of Equity and Social Justice in this effort, and represent SWD on DNRP’s ESJ team and other county race, equity, and social justice initiatives. 
  • Serve as a senior management team member contributing to developing policies and strategies that will advance the vision and mission of the division.   This requires thinking with an enterprise-wide perspective and the ability to aid in the division’s pursuit of the established strategic goal areas (Employer of Choice, Environmental Excellence, Financial Stewardship, Customer Service Excellence, and Partner of Choice).
  • Prepare performance dashboards, and other regular performance reports, and summarize results and interpretations of findings for a wide range of audiences including policymakers, agency leadership, employees, and/or community representatives
  • Build and strengthen trust and relationships within SWD, employees, community partners, and other key stakeholders, especially those who need the greatest support. Ensure work units are informed and empowered to make thoughtful and strategic decisions that are in support of the department’s ESJ goals.
  • Represent the division’s diversity, equity, and inclusion strategy efforts at the department or county level, ensuring awareness, involvement, and contributions as appropriate. Lead and participate in programs, committees, strategic initiatives, longer-term plans, and/or projects.
  • Identifies opportunities to enhance a racially and culturally diverse workforce through innovative recruitment and retention strategies.
You should Have the Following:
  • Be action-oriented and have a passion for equity, social and racial justice, and experience in implementing equity projects, policy updates, and quantitative and qualitative analysis
  • Lived experience and educational experience working in a professional or personal capacity towards racial justice, anti-racism, or social justice issues
  • Manages risk to disrupt oppression and racism, including talking explicitly about race in racially mixed groups in ways that normalize the behavior and draw others in
  • Effective collaboration and consultation skills with the ability to work with division staff and management to deliver effective outcomes
  • Has a strategic mindset and has led or assisted and can plan and design systems that address and dismantle institutional and structural racism and its impact on marginalized communities
  • Utilizes an integrated approach of equity analysis with project and change management tools to manage multiple projects, along with excellent organizational skills and strategies to move work forward
  • Understands how to work with and effectively engage with a diverse set of employee teams and workplace cultures including those in skilled trades.
  • Is resilient, with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to engage in courageous conversations about race, gender, and identity and navigate through conflict in healthy ways, while working in an environment that at times can be ambiguous and politically sensitive.
  • Ability to assist division leaders in translating business strategy and objectives into attainable goals and plans that are aligned with the County's Equity and Social Justice goals and the Division’s and Department's equity goals.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and work with diverse populations and interest groups.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and use discretion when handling sensitive information.
Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Have:  
  • Demonstrated experience applying equity and social justice principles and practices in a government setting.
  • Experience in continuous improvement, strategy, and program development focused on the integration of anti-racist and pro-equity practices
  • Has a high level of self-awareness, and emotional intelligence and is engaged in ongoing self-exploration related to race, power, and privilege, including performing stakeholder analysis.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 including Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint, and OneDrive.
  • Strong data analytics skills.

Work Location: Primarily teleworking and the King Street Center 201 S. Jackson St., Seattle WA 98104.

Work Schedule: This regular, full-time position is exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is not overtime eligible. This position generally works a 40-hour work week, Monday through Friday.
