Job Summary
Student Engagement & Traditions (SET) at Old Dominion University supports students throughout their Monarch experience from confirmation to commencement with the goal of supporting the retention, persistence, and graduation of ODU students. The SET team oversees large-scale campus programs and events, student organizations, fraternity and sorority life, off-campus student life, ODU’s campus information desk, and supports existing campus traditions while developing new ones. The Coordinator for Student Engagement & Traditions will oversee one of three programmatic areas: Student Organizations, Fraternities & Sororities, and Campus Programming. Representative duties include: meeting regularly with students to facilitate and support their development as leaders while planning and executing campus events and operational support; Planning and coordination of unit events, programs, or initiatives. Provide creative engagement opportunities for students that appeal to a broad and diverse audience; and the development and execution of training and development opportunities for a variety of student populations.

Minimum Qualifications
  • A master’s degree in higher education administration, student affairs, or comparable field by start date. Bachelor’s degree with experience equivalent to a Master’s degree may be substituted.
  • Some knowledge of student development theory.
  • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Demonstrated ability to foster a collaborative environment and work across organizational lines.
  • Demonstrated ability to advise, supervise, or mentor students.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, work independently and as a team member.
  • Some experience with one or more of the following populations: fraternities & sororities, student organizations, program boards, student staff, orientation leaders.
  • Some experience with data management, data reporting, or database support.
  • Some experience with group development and training.
  • Some experience creating, implementing, and evaluating student-centered programs.
