Animal Control Officer

Summit County is recruiting an Animal Control Officer to help with the enforcement of local animal control laws and ordinances.

Essential functions include but are not limited to: patrolling the county for unlicensed dogs, apprehending and removing to the animal shelter. Removing dead or injured animals from county streets, investigating animal abuse or cruelty complaints, issuing citations for violation of ordinances, and giving testimony in court as required. Having a working knowledge of local animal control ordinances, geography, and basic animal care, procedures, and cautions is valued. Proper kennel cleaning methods, first aid, nutrition, and care practices related to cats and dogs is essential, along with office practices, procedures, and record-keeping.

Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from high school or GED, adequate training to demonstrate an ability to perform above related duties, valid driver's license, able to lift 60 pounds regularly, willing to be called out on a 24-hour basis. We may hire at one of the following levels depending on submitted qualifications and experience.

Animal Control Officer I no experience necessary, must have NACA I certification within 1 year of hire date. Salary: $17.67 - $24.75/hour.

Animal Control Officer II NACA I and II certifications required, one year of specialized training provided through professionally sponsored workshops, formal courses related to the above tasks, or on the job training, and 3 years of experience. Salary: $18.74 - $26.23/hour.

Animal Control Officer III NACA I, II, & III certifications required, a recent certification in euthanasia, first line supervision, and report writing, two years of specialized training provided through professionally sponsored workshops, formal courses related to the above tasks, or on the job training, and two years of progressively responsible experience performing the duties of an ACO II. Salary Range: $21.04 - $29.48/hour.
