Summary

We have an exciting leadership opportunity for Treasury’s Banking and Accounting Supervisor predominately working remotely.  
 
 
This position supervises six team members in the Banking and Accounting unit. The team is responsible for administering the County's banking services contract, cashiering, warrant redemption, bank account reconciliation, and processing of incoming and outgoing electronic payments as part of the Treasury Operations team. Our Treasury Section collects, distributes, and invests property taxes and other public revenues, as well as manages long term debt payments, for King County and other taxing districts. Treasury Operations

Scope of Job Duties: To be considered for this opportunity, you must at a minimum, demonstrate knowledge, skill, and ability to:
 

  • Supervise staff. Establish priorities and work schedules; coach, motivate and evaluate job performance; recommend hiring and disciplinary actions; identify and recommend training needs and provide training.
  • Lead the day-to-day operations of the Banking and Accounting unit.
  • Ensure outstanding customer service is provided by all staff.
  • Lead, develop, and create a healthy workplace culture.
  • Lead business process standardization using technology.
  • Develop and implement operational business plans.
  • Maintain and update cash handling policies and procedures.
 
 Minimum Qualifications:
  • Experience supervising a team of more than five people in Banking and/or Accounting functions, including leading, prioritizing, and assigning work. 
  • Accounting and/or banking experience.
  • Strong communication skills, presentation skills, ability to facilitate meetings and interact with various audience at all levels.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and build and maintain positive relationships with staff, supervisors, agencies, and customers.
  • Ability to lead, encourage, and support continuous improvement efforts with the ability to think strategically and be analytical when understanding problems, can anticipate potential issues, and uses data and metrics to drive decision making.
  • Experience managing projects, ideally with a technology focus. Ability to move forward on key initiatives and work to improve services.
  • Ability to make sound decisions in a timely manner.
  • Ability to perform research, analyze, and solve problems. 
  • Ability to work individually and collaboratively as a team member. 
  • Ability to think differently, are eager to try new things, and challenge yourself to improve processes.
  • Intermediate level of technology proficiency using MS Office Productivity tools in your daily work. 
  • Ability to manage your time and adapt to changing priorities, work on multiple priorities and projects simultaneously, meet quick deadlines, and produce timely and quality work products.
  • Ability to uphold our Division’s values.
  • Ability to work in a remote work environment.
 
 We would love it if you have:
  • Experience and knowledge of complex billing systems (Over 700,000 customers).
  • Knowledge of property tax collection process.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, public administration, accounting, finance, or economics.
  • Experience with LEAN processes and principles.
  • Experience with SharePoint, MS Teams, and other collaborative online tools.

Other Position Information:
This position is exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and is therefore not overtime-eligible.  Employees are paid on a bi-weekly schedule, every other Thursday, comprising a 40-hour workweek; normally 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Flexible schedules are available based on business needs. This position is not represented by a union.
 
Teleworking Requirement
The work associated with this position will be performed predominantly by teleworking  complemented with onsite work and meetings as needed. If an employee chooses, they may work in the office fulltime, but is not required to do so. Employees will have access to shared workspaces at various King County facilities.  Employees must reside in Washington State and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.
 
Employees will be provided with a County issued laptop and must maintain a workspace with an internet connection (access may be supplemented in some situations) where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours. Please note that when an employee conducts work that is likely to bring them in contact with another individual, safety precautions are required, including the wearing of masks in some situations. King County is doing its part to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and remains committed to reducing our carbon footprint.
