Summary: 

Provides skilled secretarial assistance and performs other duties relating to direct and/or indirect patient care in support of assigned department(s). Upholds the mission, vision, values, and customer service standards of The MetroHealth System.

 

 

Responsibilities:


1. Performs all duties related to the admission/discharge/transfer of patients as directed, including but not be limited

2. Takes accurate inventory and orders clinical and non clinical supplies and services.

3. Receives clinical and non clinical orders of supplies and services, including checking the delivery against the order; ensures proper storage of the supplies ordered.

4. Prepares and processes purchase orders, work orders, equipment repair requests, etc. as required.

5. Maintains nursing division records, forms, certifications, etc. in an orderly and standardized fashion.

6. Acts as the area's receptionist, including answering phones, responding to patient intercoms, and referring questions and messages to appropriate personnel with a courteous, positive, and professional attitude.

7. Receives and distributes department mail.

8. Maintains patient records including accurately performing manual back up procedures during scheduled and non scheduled computer "down time".

9. Performs a variety of secretarial duties in support of the department.

11. Contributes to the proper daily operation of the electronic medical record system, any other unit-specific computer systems, and other office equipment according to operating instructions; maintains the electronic bed management system, patient census, and staffing database.

12. Transports medications from the pneumatic tube system to the medication storage room.

13. When assigned to a community hospital provides patient transport services.

14. Keeps current with trends, developments, and practices in the field as they relate to this work assignment.

15. Incorporates principles of teamwork in the resolution, completion, and follow-up of responsibilities.

Required:
High School Diploma or passage of a high school equivalency exam.
2 years of experience in business/health care office environments in an automated setting.
Knowledge of medical terminology.
Basic computer skills.
Ability to organize workload, make decisions, and maintain confidentiality.
Good written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
Good clerical skills and mathematical aptitude.
Pass the PSR post-employment test with a score of 80% or better.

Preferred:
Data entry experience.

Physical Requirements:
May sit, stand, stoop, bend, and walk intermittently during the day.
May need to sit or stand for extended periods.
See in the normal visual range with or without correction.
Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
Finger dexterity to operate office equipment required.
May need to lift up to twenty-five (25) pounds on occasion.
Ability to communicate in face-to-face, phone, email, and other communications.
Ability to see computer monitor and departmental documents.
