General Description
Under the direction of the Assistant Vice President of Finance the Accountant supports the Finance Department by reconciling, analyzing, and preparing financial reports. The Accountant is also responsible for the submission of pension reimbursement, review of accounts payable disbursements and processing contributions for the Foundation.
Characteristics, Duties, and Responsibilities
· Reconciles monthly the Operating, Payroll, Student Refund and Foundation bank accounts.
· Prepares month-end and year-end payroll accruals and other journal entries.
· Monitors and reconciles Federal Work Study awards to the general ledger.
· Assist with faculty and adjunct overload and overage calculations.
· Prepares monthly and quarterly account reconciliations.
· Maintain employee reporting records for compliance with sponsor terms and conditions related to time and effort reporting.
· Prepares the monthly analysis of all balance sheet accounts.
· Reviews all accounts payable disbursements for the College.
· Responsible for the reconciliation and maintenance of the miscellaneous receivable accounts.
· Monthly computation and submission of
ABP
Pension reimbursement from State of NJ.
· Responsible for the contribution entries for the Foundation.
· Performs general accounting duties as needed in the department.
· Analyzes all non-credit receivables and prepares the detailed revenue and expense analysis monthly for the entire non-credit division.
· Responsible for the stale dated check and annual escheatment process submission to the State.
· Assists with policies and procedures with the future need of the College in mind.
· Performs other duties as assigned.
Education Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.
Experience
· Minimum three years’ experience in general accounting, preferably fund accounting.
· Experience using Ellucian Colleague system preferable.
Competencies and Skills Required
· Must have strong MS Office skills and experience to include Outlook, Word, and Excel.
· Good written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
· Ability to deal with internal and external contacts tactfully and courteously.
· Deals well with pressure, able to prioritize, organize, and take ownership of processes.
· Proactive self-starter who demonstrates innovation and initiative.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
· This position’s duties are normally performed in a typical interior/residence work environment, based on the activity scheduled.
· Some physical effort required; however, the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
· No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
· Some travel may be required.
