Summary: 

Plans, delivers, documents and evaluates nursing care for clients and employees of the MetroHealth System. Maintains accurate and timely documentation of care provided to clients and employees. Supports organizational initiatives in community outreach and support, infection prevention and employee health and wellness. Upholds the mission, vision, values, and customer service standards of The MetroHealth System.

 

 

Responsibilities:


1. Client and Employee Care
a. Provides direct nursing care to clients and employees according to the assignment; assesses health-related needs based on biological data, history, and other existing data, such as medical chart reports or computerized medical record.
b. Provides age-appropriate care for the population(s) served. Possesses the ability to understand and react effectively to the unique needs of each population and to assess, treat and care for these client and employee groups.
c. Provides care in a manner which enhances client and employee satisfaction and respects cultural diversity.
d. Remains current with contemporary nursing techniques and standards, adhering to national standards and ANA Code of Ethics.
e. Serves on committees and participates in activities within the nursing service or medical operations as appropriate.

2. Client Services
a. Communicates to clients the purpose of program services and the potential impact of those services on their health and wellbeing
b. Facilitates individual and group clinical, educational and support programs.
c. Assists with data collection and reporting based on program needs
d. Works with specific populations to improve health outcomes by bridging access to health care services and addressing social determinants of health.
e. Engages with clients in a variety of environments, including their homes, neighborhood locations, community-based organizations and MetroHealth facilities.
f. Operates a MetroHealth mobile unit in the transportation of program materials to multiple MetroHealth facilities and other locations as needed.

3. Employee Services
a. Coordinates with Human Resources for pre-employment screenings and ensures all pre-employment criteria are completed. This includes evaluating health history, obtaining external immunization records, and developing appropriate immunization administration schedule.
b. Conducts surveillance and follow-up of healthcare workers’ exposures to communicable diseases.
c. Maintains an accurate and confidential employee health record.
d. Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates care provided to employee post blood borne pathogen exposure.
e. Applies nursing process to an employee’s health concern by assessing laboratory values, symptoms, injury event and history.
f. Conducts FIT testing and ensures compliance with OSHA regulations. Conduct health assessment when necessary during FIT testing.
g. Performs pre employment and “for cause” drug testing per regulatory guidelines.

4. Community Outreach
a. Supports community outreach program policies and procedures to enhance the image/visibility of The MetroHealth System among community groups, and to improve the health/outcomes for community residents.
b. Supports and applies both internal/external marketing strategies.
c. Supports positive relationships between community partners, volunteers, staff, hospital departments, media, academic institutions, special committees, and hospital administration.
d. Supports community events throughout the year.
e. Represents The MetroHealth System at special events, meetings, and/or planning groups involved in
community programming projects.

5. Quality Improvement & Safety
a. Demonstrates adherence to policies related to the safe handling of hazardous/infectious wastes and materials; upholds standards of universal precautions.
b. Collaborates with peers and other members of the health care team to address issues related to clinic operations; participates in interdisciplinary performance improvement activities.
c. Assists in analyzing and evaluating client and employee care; participates in Performance Improvement initiatives, makes recommendations to nurse manager; identifies trends and/or patterns in relation to client and employee service issues.

6. Informatics & Technology
a. Maintains accurate and complete records and reports on documentation of client and employee conditions, active problems, treatments, medications and outcomes of same to reflect current status.
b. Demonstrates a general understanding of and the ability to use of EPIC and other automated systems, such as HIS, and the laboratory and radiology information systems.

7. Communication, Teamwork & Collaboration
a. Guides and directs assigned nursing personnel; assigns appropriate duties to staff members, supervises their work and instructs them in its proper performance, evaluates their progress and performance.
b. Collaborates with physicians and other members of the health care team.

8. Leadership & Professionalism
a. Identifies own learning needs, sets learning goals and actively pursues required knowledge and skills.
b. Attends and actively participates in in-service programs.
c. Assists in orientation and instruction of new personnel.
d. Assists in checking and maintaining an adequate level of supplies; utilizes supplies in a cost-effective manner.

9. Displays sensitivity to and understanding of various cultural, ethnic, racial, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Required:
Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.
Current Registered Nurse Licensure in the State of Ohio.
Three years professional RN clinical experience.
Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communications skills, including experience making presentations to a wide range of audiences.
Demonstrated ability to identify and effectively resolve problems/issues.
Strong critical thinking, abstract thinking, and analytical skills.
Ability to embrace change and adapt to quickly evolving situations.
Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Ability to establish and cultivate productive and positive working relationships with a wide range of partners, including MetroHealth staff, external clients, and community constituents.
Demonstrated competence and experience using Microsoft Office software products; Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
Ability to take clinical on-call time.
Ability to work a flexible schedule including occasional evenings and weekends.
Thorough knowledge of nursing theory and practice, including basic knowledge relating to nursing such as biological, physical, psychosocial, and medical sciences and their applications.
Thorough knowledge of the use and care of instruments, equipment and supplies related to nursing service or ambulatory medical practice.
Thorough knowledge of the theory and principles of medical asepsis.
Current AHA Basic Life Support for the healthcare provider certification or obtains within 90 days of hire.
Current Ohio Driver’s License.
Ability to interact effectively with a wide range of cultural, ethnic, racial, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Preferred:
Master’s Degree in Nursing or in a related health care field
Experience with virtual or mobile clinical care modalities

Physical Requirements:
May sit, stand, stoop, bend, and walk intermittently during the day.
May need to sit or stand for extended periods.
See in the normal visual range with or without correction.
Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
A high degree of physical coordination and finger-hand dexterity.
Ability to lift 250-300 pounds with assistance.
Ability to push/pull up to 500 pounds with assistance.
Requires some exposure to communicable diseases or body fluids.
Requires some exposure to chemicals and cleaning products.
