The National Center for State Courts (NCSC) is an independent, non-profit court improvement organization.  NCSC's services--research, information services, education, consulting, association management and technical assistance--are focused on helping courts plan, make decisions, and implement improvements that save time and money, while ensuring judicial administration that supports fair and impartial decision-making.

NCSC is seeking applicants to fill a program support role in its Research Division. The Program Specialist provides administrative, project management, and substantive project support to the project manager/director in the Research division.

Duties and Responsibilities

Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Assists in proposal review and drafting and completion of the project application submission process;
  • Reviews project awards/contracts and monitors compliance with funding agency requirements;
  • Assists the project director with all aspects of project management, including cost, scope, schedule, risk, and stakeholder management;
  • Monitors, and assists project directors in managing, project resources;
  • Prepares, reviews, and monitors budgets for federal, state, and private foundation funding agencies;
  • Supports substantive project work, such as data collection/data entry and survey analysis;
  • Manages entry of project details, schedules, tasks, and assignments using the division’s project management tools;
  • Coordinates funder/client interaction, communication, and requests;
  • Provides administrative support for projects, including the planning of and participation in meetings (both virtual and in-person); and
  • Designs, edits, and formats reports, presentations, data visualizations, and other project products.
 

Qualifications

To be considered for this position candidates must possess the following minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, public administration, sociology or business; or a combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position;
  • Four or more years of experience in a program/project support role that includes providing project management support;
  • Experience in a research, government or court related environment is desirable;
  • Knowledge of office management and support practices and procedures to include budget preparation and monitoring;
  • Ability to exercise initiative and independent judgment and to effectively interact with a diverse mix of individuals;
  • Advanced skill in Microsoft Office Suite with full proficiency in Outlook, Excel, and Word;
  • Experience using data visualization software desirable;
  • Familiarity with project management software desirable;
  • Ability to produce reports and presentations incorporating data visualization features desirable; and
  • Ability to travel overnight periodically.
