The Public Library of New London is seeking a community-oriented, innovative and dynamic Executive Director to oversee all aspects of the library, including library operations, fiscal management, personnel management and facility management. The Board of Trustees seeks a successful candidate who will cultivate relationships with existing and new stakeholders and who demonstrates excellent leadership, advocacy, communication and fundraising skills.

New London has a population of 26,984, an AENGLC rank of 164/169 and is designated a distressed municipality. But change is in the air. The transition to an all-magnet school district is creating an emphasis on the culture of learning through partnerships. The library, as an important community partner, received a 20% increase in the budget for FY 2016 and small but steady increases every year since. Last year the library had 55 visitors per service hour, and staff offered 942 programs to the public. The main Amtrak line between Boston and New York stops three blocks from the library.

Requirements include a MLS/MLIS from an ALA accredited school and five years of professional public library work, including at least three years of managerial experience. Strong second language skills (English/Spanish) a plus. Some evenings and weekends required.

Starting salary range is $72,000 - $78,000, depending on experience and qualifications, with a competitive employee benefits package.
