Mission:

The Application Architect at EBSCO is a technical leader who has significant responsibility for the architecture and engineering of our Research and Discovery products.

The Architect engages with business stakeholders and multiple software development teams to define the functional requirements, analyze technical trade-offs, determine the major components, and specify the APIs between the services. They validate technology assumptions and evaluate alternatives. The Architect serves as the primary architectural coach for each development team ensuring that team-led designs run in sync with the product/solution architecture and underlying platform architecture.

Each day millions of researchers use our modern user interfaces and sophisticated search engine to search and discover full-text content quickly and easily.

These highly scalable applications are built with React, Node.js, and APIs leveraging Spring Framework technologies. The AWS workloads include EC2, S3, Lambda, Cloudfront, DynamoDB, ElastiCache, ECS/EKS, and others. Everything is managed with infrastructure as code to ensure a consistent, scalable, and reliable platform.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Define, design, prototype, and plan current and future cloud-based applications
  • Provide technical leadership to the agile software engineering teams
  • Own, develop, review, and enhance design artifacts
  • Develop architecture in support of upcoming business features and capabilities
  • Establish critical nonfunctional requirements at the solution and team level
  • Interact regularly with business stakeholders, program, and engineering teams about features under development

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, or related field
  • 2+ years as an architect focused on web-based application design and development
  • Deep knowledge of the client-side development ecosystem: React, Redux, Webpack, Node.js
  • Deep understanding of SOA/REST/Microservices concepts
  • Experience and working knowledge of cloud-based architecture and solutions (AWS certifications are a plus)
  • Experience partnering with multiple business and engineering teams to architect and strategize technology roadmaps
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing solutions, and monitoring tools

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with mobile applications design principals and their use of APIs
  • Knowledge and experience applying enterprise patterns to solve business problems
  • Experience running Agile and applying Agile to application development
