Boulder County Transportation maintains over 700 miles of roadways. To help keep county residents moving by bus, bike, and car, Road Maintenance is hiring Equipment Operator I or II positions. Using various types of heavy equipment, the Equipment Operators help build, repair, and maintain county-owned roadways.

These are full-time, benefited  positions with Boulder County.  Work hours are Monday through Friday, from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm October through April and Monday through Thursday 6:00 am to 4:30 pm April through October. The positions are located in Longmont, Walden Ponds and Nederland. Under FSLA guidelines these positions are non-exempt

Equipment Operator I Hiring salary range: $41,388 to $45,936 annually
Equipment Operator II hiring salary range: $45,936 to $50,484 annually

Examples of Duties

 

  1. Operates equipment such as single-axle trucks, light front-end loaders and other light equipment used for County road construction, snow removal, maintenance and repair
  2. Services and makes minor repairs and adjustments to assigned equipment
  3. Checks and reports present or anticipated mechanical problems of assigned equipment
  4. Performs manual labor and flagging as a crew member involved in construction and maintenance projects
  5. May operate, as a trainee, medium equipment such as backhoes, tandem-axle trucks and medium front-end loaders
  6. Performs related work, as required
  7. May be reassigned in emergency situations

Required Qualifications

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • A high school diploma, or equivalent
  • At least one year of experience operating road maintenance equipment (Equipment Operator I)
  • At least two years of experience operating road maintenance equipment (Equipment Operator II)
 
DRIVER'S LICENSE:
  • Applicants must possess a Colorado Class B Commercial Driver's license with air brake endorsement
  • Applicants for the Equipment Operator II position must have a Colorado Class A Commercial Driver's license, or the ability to obtain within six months of hire
 
PRE-EMPLOYMENT PHYSICAL:
  • Applicants must take and pass a pre-employment physical and agility test
 
PRE-EMPLOYMENT DRUG TEST:
  • A job offer is contingent on passing a drug test

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Applicants must be registered with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMSCA) Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse, and must authorize Boulder County to perform a Full Query prior to hiring

  • Working knowledge of traffic laws and common hazards and safety precautions necessary for light equipment operation
