Circulation Coordinator

The Wyndham Robertson Library at Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia is a small and nimble library that actively supports the campus community through teaching, collections, events, and engagement with university initiatives. The library staff strives for diversity, equity, and inclusion through every aspect of its resources and services, regularly seeks feedback, and modifies its practices to be a welcoming and accessible space for the university’s diverse student body. Qualified candidates are sought for the Circulation Coordinator position who are enthusiastic about working with student assistants and providing equitable and responsive services to the Hollins community.

Reporting to the Assistant University Librarian, the Circulation Coordinator is responsible for ensuring the provision of excellent customer service at the library’s checkout desk through prompt and positive interactions with the Hollins community. The position monitors the circulation of books and media and the shelving of materials to ensure accessibility. The coordinator achieves this through both their actions and the effective management of student employees who are often the first point of contact for library guests.

The Circulation Coordinator will have the opportunity to impact Hollins through multiple avenues:

  • Train, supervise, and mentor up to 30 student employees
  • In conjunction with the Assistant University Librarian and Interlibrary Services Coordinator, collaborate on sustainable workflows for the Access Services Unit
  • Serve as the main point of contact for the library’s physical collections, which includes the management, record-keeping, and communication for checked-out and requested materials and the transfer of materials between Hollins’ library and Roanoke College’s Fintel Library

Successful applicants must have an associate’s degree or a high school degree or equivalent with some relevant experience; previous experience in customer service or a related area; previous experience in a supervisory or leadership position; demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills, both in-person and written; demonstrated organizational skills and the ability to work in an environment with frequent interruptions; and abilities to work proactively and independently and make daily decisions in response to service-related inquiries. This position opens the library and candidates must be available to work 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Monday – Friday.

Candidates must also demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. President Mary Dana Hinton has prioritized diversity, equity, and justice at Hollins, and the Wyndham Robertson Library has responded to this call to action by integrating those goals into the work of the library.

Preferred qualifications include a bachelor’s degree, library experience, higher education experience, and teaching or training experience.

Applicants should submit a cover letter and current resume to hollinshr@hollins.edu. Those who are invited to interview will be asked for the names and contact information for three (3) references. Candidates are encouraged to comment in their cover letter on how their contributions will further the university’s efforts to ensure the success and inclusion of all members of its community. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.

Hollins is an equal opportunity employer and is strongly committed to promoting diversity and inclusivity at every level of the university. Persons of all genders; persons with disabilities; persons of all racial, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds; and first-generation college graduates are encouraged to apply.
