Job Summary | The School of Biological Sciences has an immediate opening for a senior accountant who will work closely with School management and senior accounting personnel to maintain and reconcile department personnel accounts. This position has primary responsibility for payroll and accurate maintenance of personnel records but will also be involved with the other departmental accounting functions. |
Responsibilities | 1. Responsible for new hire onboarding and payroll initiation. 2. Troubleshoots discrepancies and maintains accurate payroll records. 3. Responsible for Kronos timecard sign-off, transfers and set up. 4. Verifies check advice and accurate/timely employee pay. 5. Works closely with faculty and accounting to ensure correct grant effort, expenditures, and distribution transfers. 6. Processes departmental deposits and wire transfers. 7. Works closely with senior accounting personnel on budget and other projects as requested. 8. Processes journal entries to correct expenditures and transfer funds. 9. Prepares ad-hoc reports on an as needed basis. 10. Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications | Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience), plus two years professional accounting experience. Also required are a thorough knowledge of established accounting principles and practices, knowledge of accounting software, advanced spreadsheet skills, the ability to write queries and macros and demonstrated analytical, problem solving, human relations and effective communication skills. Certifications as a Certified Public Accountant may be preferred for certain positions. |
