Performs a wide range of technical and administrative procedures for the Electron Microscopy (EM) Service. Expected to perform a variety of diversified duties of a technical nature to produce technically acceptable preparations of human tissues in order to ensure optimal patient diagnosis and treatment. Is reponsible for daily operations to include specimen preparation and required documentation. Prepares material for teaching conferences and instructs house staff and other students.
1) Technical duties to include preparing and processing of thick and thin sections. Writes and updates procedures.
2) Operates the electron microscope and documents findings via photographs or computer images.
3) Consults with pathologists on diagnostic interpretation of EM material
4) Operates image analysis instruments.
5) Prepares material for conferences and teaches house staff and other students.
6) Supervises and schedules other EM Service staff.
7) Maintains electron microscope to include scheduling of routine and preventive maintenance. Orders supplies
8) Willingly accepts changes in the work schedule as necessary to accommodate patient needs.
9) Performs frozen sections and other intra-operative consultations, within established protocol and procedural parameters
1) 3-5 years laboratory experience to include one year of clinical electron microscopy training
