The Neurodiagnostic team is comprised of EEG Technologists, EEG Technicians and Neurodiagnostic Assistants. These individuals work together to set up patients with appropriate equipment, allowing for monitoring and recording of electrical activity of a patient’s brain waves. This in turn allows us to provide physicians proof of any brain abnormalities. The team provides support for Butterworth, Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital, Blodgett, 25 Michigan and 35 Michigan.

The EEG Technician is an entry to mid-level position that performs EEG procedures according to department and Spectrum Health policy and procedures.

Essential Functions

  • Performs patient assessment as it relates to electrode fixation product allergies, movement restrictions, and cognitive function.
  • Knows and recognizes drug and physiological status effects on activity monitored.
  • Electrode application and maintenance in adherence with the International 10-20 System.
  • Knowledgeable in correct EEG equipment performance and recognition of clinically significant events.
  • Basic and intermediate technical troubleshooting, artifact identification and elimination.
  • Continues to learn and apply basic and intermediate EEG waveform recognition.

Required Qualifications

  • 6 months of relevant experience
  • Associate's Degree or equivalent Graduate from a Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) accredited Electro neurodiagnostic (END) Program
  • CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA American Heart Association - Or - ARC American Red Cross – within 90 Days of hire

Preferred Qualifications

  • CRT-Polysomnographic Technologist - BRPT Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists
