Job Description
The Missouri University of Science and Technology (Missouri S&T) seeks candidates for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Metallurgical program of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE). More experienced candidates may be considered for the rank of Associate Professor.
MSE has 16 tenured/tenure-track faculty and five teaching/research faculty. The department offers ABET accredited undergraduate degrees in ceramic and metallurgical engineering, and graduate degrees in materials science and engineering along with ceramic and metallurgical engineering. The department has approximately 100 undergraduate students and 60 graduate students, placing it among the top twenty in size nationally. MSE faculty conduct research in diverse areas including ceramics and metals for extreme environments, polymers and bioactive glasses for healthcare applications, sustainable manufacturing of steel and cement for use in low-carbon infrastructure, and recovery of critical minerals from various process streams. MSE faculty have tripled their research expenditures in the past seven years, reaching over $8 million in the most recent academic year.
Candidates must have earned a doctorate in metallurgical engineering, materials science and engineering, or a closely related field. Additionally, candidates are expected to be involved in undergraduate and graduate education, conduct internationally recognized and externally funded research, and participate in service to the university and profession.
