The Center for Children and Families (CCF) at Florida International University announces summer positions for PreK-12 regular and special education teachers, with a preference on Bachelor’s or higher level individuals in Education/Special Education, Psychology/Mental Health, or related field, with field experience in working with children in school, after-school, or summer settings for the 2024 Summer Reading Explorers program funded by The Children’s Trust.
The CCF is Florida International University’s premiere research, service, and training facility for child and adolescent mental and behavioral health. The CCF provides ongoing training and clinical services to the population of Miami-Dade County to promote healthier children and families. The Summer Reading Explorers Program provides evidence-based small-group literacy instruction to rising kindergarten, first grade, and second grade students throughout Miami-Dade County.
Summer Reading Tutors, Summer Reading Tutors will be Florida teachers with reading intervention experience and field experience working with children in school, after-school, or summer settings. Requirements: A certified teacher with a current or expired teaching certificate; out of state/country certificates; an individual who is in their final 2 years of seeking their 4-year teaching degree (transcripts required); or a private or charter school teacher with a minimum of 2 years of active teaching experience (letter from school or alternative proof required). Preference will be placed on those with a Bachelor’s degree and teaching certificate. Each Summer Reading Tutor will provide 30- or 45-minute small group reading instruction to approximately 8 groups daily (with no more than 5 children per group), assisting in student recruitment activities, assessing individual student progress, communicating with parents, assisting in parent engagement activities, conducting make-up intervention sessions as needed, attend weekly team planning meetings, maintaining paperwork and completing data entry for completed activities. The dates of Employment will begin tentatively June 10th, 2023, and end in conjunction with BCPS calendar. Tutors will work a minimum of 8 hours per day, Monday through Friday. Tutors are compensated a summer salary of $7,000. They are required to attend mandatory training dates and times TBA. Daily travel between assigned region sites will be required (valid driver’s license required).
