Salary: $45,000-$48,000 (Salary to be commensurate with education and experience)

General Statement of Duties: The Coordinator of Sports Performance is responsible for planning, implementing, and overseeing the intercollegiate strength & conditioning program for all varsity teams. This portion of the position will work closely with the sports medicine staff, coaches, and student-athletes, in order to implement policies and procedures for strength & conditioning. The Coordinator for Sports Performance will also oversee Woodward Fitness Center.

As the Assistant Facility Manager, in collaboration with the duties of the Coordinator of Sports Performance, will also share in the responsibility to manage the athletic facilities. As Assistant Facility Manager, this person will oversee the Woodward fitness center, which includes but it not limited to managing the night and weekend operations for the Woodward Center and athletics complex. This position will also be responsible for reserving and managing external groups that are interested in renting space within the athletics complex, as well as reserving space for Westfield State University (WSU) club sports and intramurals.  This is a full-time, 12-month appointment. The successful candidate must have a working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations and must abide by WSU rules.


Duties and Responsibilities:
Duties include but not limited to:
Essential:

  • Design, implement and evaluate the Strength & Conditioning program for varsity sports programs for performance enhancement and injury prevention.
  • Instruct and monitor student-athletes regarding best practices with weight training techniques.
  • Work with Sports medicine staff on rehabilitation strategies for student-athletes.
  • Ensure safe operation of Woodward Fitness Center through the implementation and enforcement of policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for adhering to the philosophies and regulations of the NCAA, University, Conference, and the Athletics Department.
  • Develop student-athletes by mentoring, motivating, and teaching values consistent with Division III and Westfield State University philosophy.
  • Supervise and manage the Fitness Center in the Woodward Center.
  • Hire, train, schedule & supervise student employees.
  • Maintain the Fitness Center in the Woodward Center, including upkeep, inventory, and equipment needs.
  • Coordinate with the Sports Medicine & Human Performance Department, Conference Services, Enrollment Management, Alumni Affairs, and Facilities & Operations for reservations.
  • Identify facility maintenance and repair issues, and work cooperatively with the Facilities and Operations staff to address and take corrective action.
  • Responsible for the generation of revenue by attracting quality external organizations and events for the rental of athletic facilities.
  • Produce publicity, public relations, and marketing pieces that will serve to maximize income and use of facilities.
  • Develop, disseminate, enforce and evaluate all policies and procedures for both internal and external use of facilities within administrative areas of responsibility.
  • Supervise the Woodward Center and athletic fields for night and weekend operations.
  • Complete & oversee payroll for student employees.
  • Coordinate athletic facility schedules for the Woodward Center/athletic fields used by external groups.
  • Coordinate and reserve space for club sports and intramural use of athletic complex through the University EMS service.
  • Manage care of appropriate facilities and equipment.
  • Contribute to a work and learning environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and the development of skills to engage with people of different cultures and backgrounds.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field.
  • Possess and maintain CSCS and AED/CPR /First Aid Certification.
  • Working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Strong organization and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to act with professionalism, integrity and confidentiality.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree with experience working in intercollegiate athletics or a related field with similar experience.


Additional Information:

Salary:
For the majority of new employees, the minimum starting salary will apply. Specific salary for current Westfield State University employees and individuals currently working for the state of Massachusetts must be calculated individually in accordance with collective bargaining and state policies and procedures.
