Position Summary
Reporting to the Associate Director of Libraries, the Scholarly Communications Librarian provides general and virtual information, research, and reference services. Plans, teaches, and assesses information literacy instruction with faculty. Develops web- and print-based materials. Serves as liaison to the School of Public Health. Locates and creates digital content to support academic instruction. Explores, evaluates, and encourages deployment of emergent technologies into library programs and services. The Scholarly Communications Librarian collaborates closely with staff across the library and initiates activities and special projects, especially those involving new methodologies and scholarly communication practices. The incumbent develops and maintains awareness of scholarly communication initiatives across the disciplines, attending professional meetings, workshops and conferences for training and continuing professional development.

Duties and Responsibilities
E-Science & Scholarly Communication Services
• Collaborates with other librarians in supporting data services.
• Investigates new technologies and works with others to develop and revise programs to respond to the changing information needs of patrons.
• Uses assessment data to inform the development of new services as new needs arise, following trends in scholarly communication and e-science.
• Maintains broad knowledge of scholarly communication and e-science trends and skills, including the publishing life cycle, minting identifiers, publishing solutions, impact metrics, and journal evaluation for faculty publications.
• Leads development and implementation of education program for Library staff on issues of scholarly communication.
• Develops and implements a program of outreach and activities to increase awareness among faculty, researchers and students about scholarly communication issues in the digital environment, including author rights, copyright, fair use, licensing, open access/traditional publishing, publishing tools, and author ID tools (ResearchID, ORCID, SciENcv, Google Scholar, etc.)
• Aids faculty in the construction of publication portfolios, including relevant metrics.
• Leads Library participation in initiatives that encourage and enable faculty to manage their own copyright and improve findability and the economics of and access to published research.

Public Services
• Provides general reference (in-person, email, chat) and occasional circulation services
• Participates actively in the delivery of library services as an online searcher; designs and executes searches of interest to individual researchers, faculty, students, and practitioners.
• Initiates and establishes liaison relationships with faculty, students, and staff in the School of Allied Health, and others as needed, providing instruction, reference, and consultation services, and participating in departmental activities.
• Contribute to committees and task forces that benefit from librarian knowledge and experience
• Contributes to library marketing and communication activities.
Description 
Bibliographic Instruction
• Works in a team-based environment to plan, design, and teach in all phases of the formal comprehensive bibliographic instruction program in classroom or informal settings and for all levels of LSUHSC community members.
• Provides, as needed, in-house training of the library staff in the fundamentals of online retrieval methods and computer applications.
• Develop library tutorials, resource guides, and other content aids
• Collaborate with faculty, administrators, and researchers to determine needs and to design and implement services, training, and instructional materials to meet information needs in a dynamic environment
• Actively promote existing library resources, services, and programs to constituents
