Tulane University Libraries seek an energetic, collaborative colleague to serve in the newly created role of Director of Scholarly Engagement. Reporting directly to the Dean of Libraries and Academic Information Resources, this important new position will oversee the information professionals who are the principal providers of instruction, outreach, and research support services for Tulane's uptown campus and the School of Social Work on the downtown campus. The position directly will supervise seven FTE librarians and one FTE support staff (10 FTE total in the group) who provide outreach, instruction, programs, and workshops to individuals and groups, synchronously and asynchronously, for the university community. The Media Services group is also part of this portfolio. As a member of the library's senior leadership team, the Director will advance strategies and plans for new or existing library services in close collaboration with peers in IT, special collections, technical services, and coordinate libraries (Matas Library of the Health Sciences, The Latin American Library).

The Director will help develop, maintain, and deliver engaging, dynamic programming to support the academic priorities of the University. This position will actively seek opportunities to integrate library resources and staff expertise into undergraduate, graduate, and professional courses; to assist faculty with their research information and dissemination needs; and to partner with other academic support units (e.g., the Innovative Learning Center, the Center for Engaged Learning and Teaching, the Center for Academic Equity), as well as Tulane's undergraduate college and schools, to ensure comprehensive, coordinated services. The incumbent will also work closely with the Associate Dean for Collections to ensure that front-line liaisons inform library purchasing and licensing decisions with sensitivity to both immediate and longer-term curricular and research needs. Incorporating equity and inclusion into all services is a fundamental requirement for success. The incumbent may have liaison responsibility for one or more departments or programs.

This position will be based on the university's Uptown campus, situated across from Audubon Park on the historic St. Charles Avenue streetcar line, in the Howard-Tilton Memorial Library near the geographic center of the campus. The Uptown campus is noted for its compact size, its expanses of green space, its eclectic mix of architectural styles, and its canopy of live oak trees. Tulane University offers a competitive benefits package including retirement, health insurance, and tuition assistance. Relocation assistance is available, and the Libraries offer financial support for professional travel and professional development opportunities.

Requirements:

The most attractive candidates will be imaginative, collaborative, and have a strong preference for both action and accountability. They will be goal- and solution-oriented, with the ability to get to "yes" and an enthusiasm for their work and its impact and possibilities. The person taking this position will have the opportunity to shape outreach, programming, and instruction services for a highly accomplished and diverse community of learners and scholars. Tulane's relatively small size, combined with the breadth and depth of its areas of study, make collaborations possible and richly rewarding.
