UW Medical Center has an outstanding opportunity for a Medical Center Construction Project Manager.  Under the direction of the Director of Design and Construction Management, this individual will be responsible for managing the programming, design and construction of medical center construction projects.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

Coordinate the work of clinical and support staff of medical center departments, faculty medical directors and medical center management staff to develop the program requirements for medical center projects.

Coordinate the work of consultant architects and engineers in translating the user requirements for medical center projects into architectural and engineering design.  Lead design meetings with medical center users, architects, and engineers.

Set or assist in the setting of medical center construction project budgets and managing those budgets to assure that all projects are designed and completed within budget.

Set or assist in the setting of medical center construction project schedules and managing the project to assure that all projects are designed and completed on schedule.

Review architectural and engineering drawings at various stages of design (schematic design, design development and construction documents) to assure that medical center functional and technical programmatic requirements and standards are met.

Represent the design team and interface as lead with AHJ (authorities having jurisdiction) regarding the Functional Program, Building Code Requirements, any other regulatory policy that could impact the design and execution of a project.

Coordinate purchase of equipment and furnishings for medical center construction projects to ensure that correct products are purchased on a timely basis in order to meet project schedules and is coordinated with the design documents.

Communicate orally and in written for concepts of projects and project progress to various constituent groups including UWMC senior management, UWMC department managers, UWMC staff and faculty.  Prepare and present presentations to staff and faculty meetings regarding projects.

Work closely with medical center departments to develop construction phasing plans to assure that construction projects will not adversely impact departmental operations.

Serve as liaison between medical center departments and the contractor to assure that the impact of the contractor's activities on departmental operations are minimized.

Work closely and coordinate with construction project management staff from the University's Capital Projects Office, including oversight of change orders and project budget.

Coordinate with staff from University Facilities Services, Environmental Health and Safety, and other departments as appropriate.

Assure that Interim Life Safety Measures are implemented during the construction phase of projects.

REQUIREMENTS:

Master's degree in health care administration, public administration, construction management, or certification as a registered architect or engineer in the State of Washington AND three to five years of experience in planning managing health care construction projects. 

Excellent written and oral communication skills required. 

Experience as a clinician is highly desirable. 

Experience in academic medical centers is highly desirable.  

An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for stated requirements.
