The Upward Bound Programs at Morehead State University is accepting applications for a full-time position as Associate Director, Upward Bound (East). The anticipated start date is November 1, 2020.


Morehead State University is located in Morehead, KY, a designated Kentucky Trail Town, nestled in Daniel Boone National Forest, in close proximity to Cave Run Lake. RESPONSIBILITIES: The Associate Director for the Upward Bound Programs (East) is responsible for the day-to-day implementation and supervision of all program services and activities. The incumbent provides counseling and academic support services to Upward Bound participants in assigned high schools to increase the secondary graduation and the post-secondary enrollment rates. Incumbent conducts parent meetings, provides counseling services for participants in academic, personal, social and career areas as needed; assesses Upward Bound participants' academic skills and designs individualized educational plans to remediate academic deficiencies and enhance academic strengths. He/she coordinates tutoring services, and enrichment sessions and provides academic support for students. Designs, evaluates, and teaches appropriate curriculum for academic year return trips and summer residential program. Incumbent must be able to work a flexible schedule during the summer months, work one Saturday a month during the academic year, and travel with students as needed.


REQUIREMENTS: Master's degree in education, guidance/counseling, social work, curriculum design/evaluation, mathematics, science, social science, and/or related field and two years’ experience as a counselor, teacher, program coordinator. Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential. Proven ability to provide services to high school students and proven supervisory skills. Clear evidence of strong planning and organizational abilities, as well as analytical reasoning skills. Ability to adhere to a flexible schedule.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Previous experience in working with economically and educationally disadvantaged secondary students and designing curriculum for those students is desired. Prior experience with mental health intervention, child abuse and neglect identification and reporting procedures. Knowledge of computerized database software, admissions and financial aid process is desired. Supervisory experience is preferred.
