Student Nurse Assistant (SNA)

The SNA (Student Nursing Assistant) program ismanagedby the Manager for Students.

  • This program is intended for a Nursing Student (enrolled in any RN nursing program) who is pursuing an Associate or Bachelor’s degree in nursing.
  • We are accommodating and flexible around your class schedules and will flex to schedule you when home on breaks for holidays, summers and in-between semesters.
  • We schedule 12 hours shifts
  • Eligible for Tuition Assistance after 6 months of employment (full or part time only)

To be eligible, the applicant must:

  • Be matriculated in a nursing program, and successfully completed the clinical component of the first semester nursing course with at least 90 hours of clinical practice.
  • Once application is received and reviewed, the student will need recommendation from the Dean of the academic program in which the student is matriculated.

Orientation includes:

  • Hospital “house” orientation, hospital clinical orientation and specific SNA orientation with your manager (Monday-Wednesday)
  • For orientation on the UNITS, the SNA is paired with an LPN or a current SNA for 4 (12-hour shifts) …we will work with you on picking these shifts

What you will do:

  • An SNA serves as a bedside nurse, caring for an assignment of patients, under the supervision of an RN.
  • The SNA is responsible for the patient’s daily care (bathing, walking, feeding, changing linens, etc.), along with vitals, intake/output, assisting the RN with tasks, or any delegated tasks within the SNAs scope of practice.
  • SNAs float to all med surge units
  • SNAs care for patients on units such as GI/GU, Oncology, Cardiac, Surgical, Medical, Ortho, Neuro, Family Practice.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensures quality nursing care is rendered to all patients
  • Work varying shifts, weekend and holiday rotations

Education, Training, Experience, Certification and Licensure:

  • On track for graduation from an accredited school of nursing
  • Maintains current BLS/CPR certification.
  • Participates in orientation and continuing education and updates and maintains knowledge and skills related to specific areas of expertise.

Work Environment and Hazards:

  • Clinical setting. Exposure Class I

Physical Demands:

  • Medium work: must be able to lift 25 pounds frequently; occasionally lifting maximum of 50 pounds. Will require ability to stand, walk, sit, bend, twist, squat and reach.
