The City of Seattle is seeking candidates for the position of Applications Developer (InfoTech Prof -B-BU) opening with Seattle Information Technology (IT). Job Responsibilities

In this role you will have the opportunity to support and enhance the City of Seattle’s use of the Oracle Could products that support the business needs of the utilities, Seattle City Light and Seattle Public Utilities. As a part of this work, you will be responsible for the operations and maintenance, incremental enhancements, troubleshooting and repair of Oracle Utilities Products and associated interface applications. In addition, you will provide support for 24 x 7 business critical systems and routine maintenance work for Seattle City Light and Seattle Public Utilities. 

Here is more of what you'll be doing:

  • Working with business clients to accurately define and document application requirements.
  • Developing application solutions by working with other Seattle IT teams and business analysts.
  • Developing new or modifying existing application components using tools and software development lifecycle standards.
  • Prioritizing varied tasks to deliver the best possible service to our business clients.
  • Assessing and quickly respond to support incidents and events with a professional, analytical, and thorough approach.
  • Participating in result reviews.
  • Coaching and mentoring peers within your areas of expertise.
  • Participating in an on-call rotation schedule to provide 24x7 application support.
  • Working as a member of a team of developers to help migrate Oracle products from Oracle on premise solution to the Oracle cloud services. 
  • Performing system maintenance and deployment activities during non-business hours.
  • Performing varied job tasks commensurate with the IT Professional B job classification.


Qualifications

NOTE: Equivalent combinations of education/experience/training will be considered for the required qualifications except where specifically noted.

You will be prepared for this role if you have intermediate level expertise for the following areas: 

  • Supporting commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) applications.
  • Waterfall and agile development methodologies. 
  • Developing applications using object-oriented design techniques and principles.
  • Developing applications using an object-oriented programming language such as Java, C#, or Python.
  • Using PL/SQL with one or more relational database technologies such as Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, or DB2.
  • Developing applications using a web application server such as WebLogic, IIS, SharePoint, or WebSphere.
  • Change management and software version control using applications such as SVN or GIT.
  • Familiarity with XML, SOAP, or RESTful web services.
  • Knowledge and understanding of web technologies including HTML, JavaScript, Java Script libraries, CSS.
  • Experience working in a Unix environment and understanding of shell scripting.
 
You will be most successful in this role if you have experience in any of the below areas: 
  • Commercial electric, water, solid waste, or gas utility business knowledge. 
  • Experience with Commercial Utilities Applications such as Oracle Utilities Customer Care and Billing (CCB), Meter Data Management (MDM), or their cloud versions.
  • Experience with Oracle Utilities Application Framework (OUAF).
  • Experience communicating sophisticated technical concepts to business customers. 
  • Project management experience leading small projects or a technical lead role within alarger project.
  • CA Workload Automation AE (AutoSys Edition) in a Solaris environment.
