Job Summary

The Manager of Benefits, Retirement, & Wellness is responsible for people leadership, vendor management, compliance adherence, operating effectiveness, and service delivery excellence for a complex and comprehensive benefits program within a large organization that serves 31,000+ team members in multiple states. Directs and develops a team of experts to deliver efficient and effective outcomes for all benefit plans while ensuring compliance and risk is mitigated. Oversees the complex operations of programs and plans that includes health and welfare, retirement, pension, life insurance, fringe, time off, wellness, tuition and hardship assistance, childcare, voluntary, recognition, etc. Leverages strong leadership skills, best practices, expertise, and collaboration to drive results, deliver the highest levels of customer experience while implementing continuous improvement and long-term solutions for the benefits operations team.

Essential Functions

  • People Leadership: Leads and develops a team of professionals (direct and indirect) while to enhancing performance and employee engagement. Is responsible for all aspects of directing talent management including hiring, equipping team members with skill and knowledge, salary planning, operationalizing work; appraising performance; professional development, recognition, and coaching. Provides strong leadership with excellent interpersonal, team building, communication & influencing skills to drive operational outcomes and business value.
  • Vendor management: Leads operational direction of 20+ vendor partners while closely managing the relationship cycle and suitability of processes, projects, programs, and accuracy of desired outcomes. Ensures stability, accuracy, and accountability of all performance contracts. Leads regular performance, implementation, and operational meetings. Leverages benefit plan feedback to troubleshoot, evaluate and manage the workflow of each vendor while upholding plan performance and compliance. Influences continuation of vendor partnerships, renewals, and operational enhancements.
  • Compliance: Ensures that plans/programs are consistently administered in compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and organizational policies. Responsible for directing and operationalizing all applicable benefit plan compliance while associating risk. Develops operational procedures, methods, or standards to ensure fair and equitable administration of all in-force plans and programs. Serves as the lead for all auditing requirements, legal discovery and deliverables required by law to be filed with federal and state agencies. Leads internal and external analytical review of all compliance reporting results to reduce and mitigate risk.
  • Overall Operating Effectiveness: Develops and maintains strong internal and external business relationships. Leads internal operations and provides input, feedback, and recommendations to the COE on total rewards strategies. With direction from COE, leads the strategic efforts to operationalize projects and plans that will attract and retain talent within the organization. Collaborates cross functionally internally and externally to ensure consistent direction, participation implementation and operational execution of system wide benefit plans and programs. Shares quality controls and audit recommendations internal partners to ensure compliance with legislation, policies, and procedures. Serves as an operational thought partner and subject matter expert.
  • Operational Excellence: Leads the planning, resourcing, execution, communication, audits, change management and evaluation of cyclical Benefits operations that includes integrations, annual enrollment, mid-year changes, new offerings, changes, terminations, etc. Oversees the complex operations of programs and plans that includes health and welfare, retirement, pension, life insurance, fringe, time off, wellness, tuition and hardship assistance, childcare, voluntary, recognition, etc. Ensures processes are documented, directs controls, and leads continuous improvement efforts to achieve and maintain operational excellence. Leads reconciliation of a large volume of monthly invoices and statements to ensure accuracy and achievement of cost savings goals. Directs stakeholders while leading critical, multi-operational, complex benefit projects with internal and external parties. Ensures ample communication, change management, and lead time to meet desired deadlines.
  • Service Delivery: Oversight and management of the day-to-day service delivery objectives outlined by the organization while leading with strong customer service outcomes. Strategically and systemically leads internal team member elevations and operational tasks to formulate accurate responses and mitigate risk to the organization. Leads while creating and driving the internal operations team to serve as a subject matter expert with clear and concise messages, timely service delivery and adherence to plan limitations.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent Bachelor’s degree in business administration, human resources or related field or equivalent combination of training and experience -Required
  • 7 years of relevant experience relevant work experience managing core benefit, retirement, and wellness operations in a large and complex organization Required
  • 3 years of relevant experience relevant experience in a supervisory position Required
  • 3 years of relevant experience of deep understanding of key concepts of benefits program design and operational impacts. Sound knowledge of the regulatory and legislative imperatives and impacts related to Total Rewards programs (Sec 125, ERISA, ACA. 409A, COBRA, HIPAA, etc.). Experience managing vendor relationships. Required
  • 1 year of relevant experience Workday and ServiceNow Preferred
