Works primarily with patients and physicians to provide financial counseling functions related to the following:  Insurance benefits, Payments, Government Assistance programs, Fund raising, Hospital and Physician charges, self pay and Uninsured benefits.  Determines eligibility for Government Assistance programs, (i.e. Medicaid, Healthy Family/Health Start, Hospital Care Assurance Program and Charity Assistance program, etc.).  Estimates hospital and physician charges, and sets up payment arrangements as needed. Ensures department productivity standards are met/exceeded. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of computer systems, insurance/government regulations and Patient Access policies/procedures used within the department.  This role encounters Protected Health Information (PHI) as part of regular responsibilities.  UH employees must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain PHI for our patients.  Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.  

Hours M-F 8a-5p

No travel involved

Education:

 

 

High School diploma or GED required. Degree or progress towards degree preferred. Completion of medical terminology coursework required.

 

 

 

Credentials, Licensure or Certification (i.e. RN, RRT):

 

CHAA required within first 6 months of hire - (CHAA is a National Association of Healthcare Access certification for Healthcare Access Associates)

 

Experience, Knowledge & Skills:

 

 

Minimum 5 years experience in hospital billing/finance department working with insurance companies/third-party payers or related experience required.  Knowledge of managed care insurance requirements is essential.

 

Demonstrated ability to use PCs, Microsoft Office suite, and general office equipment (i.e. printers, copy machine, multi-line phone, FAX machine, etc.) required.  Experience using clinical computer systems preferred. Must be detail-oriented and organized, with good analytical and problem solving ability.  Notable client service, communication and relationship building skills required.  Ability to function independently and as a team player in a fast-paced environment required.  Must have strong written and verbal communication skills.  Professional demeanor required.
