Systems Engineer - Requisition 2019-10345

Summary

To provide Systems Level Engineering Design expertise for the design, development, analysis, support and modification of a Real Time Data acquisition and Control System. This position will be based in Cypress, TX, however the position will work out of Teledyne's Fredericksburg, TX facility for much of the first year.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plans, develops, tests and documents system-level hardware/software programs.
  • Supports Engineering, Field Service, Manufacturing and Marketing departments.
  • Consults with users to identify current operational needs and define program objectives.
  • Converts project specifications into sequence of logical steps for implementation.
  • May code and test programs.
  • Reviews program results and modifies program as necessary.
  • Writes program development, logic, coding and corrections documentation.
  • Work closely with customer, engineering, quality, and others to ensure objectives/requirements are understood and satisfied.
  • Prepares and presents reports.
  • Participates in/supports Company Quality and Safety efforts.
  • Performs all other duties requested, directed, or assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree (Electrical/Software/Systems Engineering or related field).
  • 10+ years recent relevant experience.
  • Experience at all levels of the hardware/software design and support cycle.
  • Design experience with Windows/Linux software systems.
  • Design experience with A/D conversion systems.
  • Embedded system instrumentation experience.
  • Proficiency in C and C++.
  • Experience in Digital Signal Processing (DSP).
  • Serial and Ethernet communication experience.
  • Seismic experience a plus.
  • Good communication and documentation skills.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret engineering documentation, technical specifications, drawings, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Ability to apply engineering knowledge to support design, development, implementation and operation activities.
  • Ability to understand complex problems and to collaborate and explore alternative solutions
  • Ability to organize and prioritize own work schedule on short-term basis (longer than one month)
  • Ability to make decisions which have significant impact on the immediate work unit and monitor impact outside immediate work unit
  • Ability to compose materials such as detailed reports, work-related manuals, publications of moderate scope or impact, etc., and/or to make presentations outside the immediate work area
  • Ability to compute, analyze, and interpret complex statistical data and/or to develop forecasts and computer models
  • Good English communication skills and ability to communicate clearly and professionally with all levels of the organization and with customers.
  • Self-starter with ability to work and limited supervision.
  • Proficient with MS Office applications (i.e. Word, Excel, Outlook), ERP systems (preferably IFS), and ability to work efficiently with engineering drawing and modeling packages.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • This position does not have direct reports, however the person in this position must demonstrate professionalism and leadership expected from supervisors/managers.

  • Ability to research, comprehend and retain job related information and instructions.
  • Ability to concentrate and focus for extended periods of time on technical/engineering work.
  • Ability to frequently work at a computer performing systems engineering, software engineering, calculations, technical documentation and drawings, technical modeling, and data extraction for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to frequently utilize sophisticated math and engineering problem solving skills/techniques.
  • Ability to handle multiple and competing priorities/tasks.
  • Regularly required to sit or stand.
  • Ability to occasionally lift items up to 10 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required for this position include close vision and ability to adjust focus.
  • Frequently uses computer and occasionally operates office equipment (phone, fax, printers, copiers).
  • Ability to occasionally move about to access file cabinets and office equipment.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet requirements.
  • Must be able to organize work areas.
  • Ability to travel.
