Paraprofessional – General Classroom

The job of “Paraprofessional – General Classroom” is done for the purpose/s of assisting (under direct supervision) in the supervision and instruction of students and maintaining a positive learning atmosphere and reinforcing learning procedures.

Essential Job Functions:

Assists teachers for the purpose of implementing lesson plans.
Maintains classroom equipment, student’s files, record, etc. for the purpose of ensuring availability of items as may be required.
Monitors individual students, classroom and/or playground activities for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
Performs recordkeeping and basic clerical functions, scheduling, copying, etc. for the purpose of supporting the teacher in maintaining student files and providing classroom materials.

Other Job Functions:

Administers tests for the purpose of assisting teacher in evaluating students’ progress.
Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completing of their work activities.

Confers with teachers, parents and/or appropriate community agency personnel for the purpose of assisting in evaluation of students’ progress and/or implementing of students’ objectives.
Participates in various meetings for the purpose of sharing information and/or improving one’s skills/knowledge.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Essential Job Requirements – Qualifications:

Experience Required: Prior job related experience paid or volunteer with school age children.

Skills, Knowledge and / or Abilities Required:

Skills to apply assessment instruments, curriculum and relevant policies and practice, use English in both written and verbal form, intervene in crisis situations, maintain records, operative standard office equipment, apply problem solving techniques, apply software application appropriate to assignment.

Knowledge of math at a level to perform algebra and / or geometry; or language at a level to read safety rules, instructions, procedures, etc. and / or writes reports and / or speaks before audience: to reason at a level to apply principals of logical or scientific thinking to solve practical problems and / or interpret a variety of furnished instructions.

Abilities to stand and walk for prolonged periods, to influence people in their opinions, attitudes and judgments, deal with people beyond receiving work and instruction, make judgment and decisions, perform a variety of duties involving frequent changes of tasks, aptitudes, techniques, procedures, etc., work under specific instructions with little room for independent action. Significant physical abilities include lifting/crouching, reaching/handling fingering, talking/hearing conversation, and near/far visual acuity.

Education Required: High School diploma; complete two years of higher education, OR obtain an Associate’s or higher degree, OR¬. Pass a formal state or local academic assessment that demonstrates knowledge of and the ability to assist in teaching reading, writing, and mathematics.



License, Certifications, Bonding, and /or Testing Required:
Department of Justice fingerprint clearance. Valid driver’s license

Supervision: Site Principal

Evaluation: Annually, in accordance with Administrative Regulations
