Job Description:

Location: Syracuse, NY

Description of Duties:

SUNY ESF's Open Academy seeks candidates for a full-time calendar-year position.  Successful candidates will foster student engagement in STEM and raise the visibility of ESF's academic program opportunities through a series of educational, pipelining, and recruitment programs. The individual in this position will create new relationships as well as grow existing ones with external stakeholders such as K-12 organizations, STEM educators, ESF alumni, and community organizations to develop mutually beneficial opportunities.

ESF and the Open Academy are committed to creating an environment characterized by the exchange of diverse perspectives and reflects all members of the community, both inside and outside the walls of academia.  Therefore, we are particularly interested in candidates with a commitment to and evidence of supporting diversity and inclusiveness.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Developing creative and engaging learning experiences focused on broadening the diversity of ESF's applicant pool as well as diversity in ESF's academic programs.
  • Growing and maintaining relationships with STEM educators and community organizations by providing creative and engaging classroom experience; assisting educators with STEM development courses and assignments to attract prospective students.
  • Establishing a mentorship program that assists ESF students interested in designing and delivering after-school STEM learning exercises in underrepresented communities.
  • Assisting in on-campus recruitment efforts such as program webinars, open house visits, high school visits, college fairs, or other activities that target outreach to drive prospective student engagement.
  • Re-establishing summer science learning experiences for youth in grades 5-10.


Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited program
  • Degree in s STEM discipline
  • Flexible schedule and overnight travel
  • Possession of a valid driver's license

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in STEM or education
  • At least 2 years of experience working in the area of formal or informal science education.
  • Detail-oriented focus with the ability to take initiative, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion, particularly in matters relative to sensitive or confidential student records, personnel, or organizational matters.
  • Ability to work as part of team in a fast-paced, student-centered environment.
  • Strong proficiency in technology including online academic support tools, online learning resources, and content creation applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively, professionally, and effectively with individuals from diverse educational, cultural, and economic backgrounds.
  • Communication skills and cross-cultural abilities to maximize effectiveness with diverse groups of students, colleagues, and community members.
  • Evidence of strong commitment that supports of the College's mission, including that of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace.

In accordance with the "Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act" institutions of higher education are required to prepare an annual report containing information on campus security policies and campus statistics. This report includes statistics for the previous three years concerning reported crimes that occurred on-campus; in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by SUNY-ESF; and on property within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus.
