The University of Washington's Department of Rehabilitation Medicine which is currently ranked #5 in the nation by US News & World Report and has the highest ranked hospital-based rehabilitation program in the United States, is a complex academic and clinical department in the School of Medicine and Affiliated Hospitals, which include UW Medical Center, Harborview Medical Center, VA Hospitals, and Children's Hospital. The Department includes graduate programs in Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy Prosthetics & Orthotics, as well as Rehabilitation Sciences.

The Department of Rehabilitation Medicine currently has an outstanding opportunity for a RESEARCH STUDY ASSISTANT.

The Late Effects of Traumatic Brain Injury study involves recruiting and screening patients, scheduling appointments within parameters of MRI availability, obtaining informed consent (including for brain donation), data collection (administering self-report questionnaires, brief medical examination, neurological screening, and comprehensive neuropsychological testing), data entry, neuropsychological test scoring, and efficient entry of participants into autopsy consent database including communication with Neurobiobank coordinator and First Call Plus.

Responsibilities:

Subject recruitment (25%):
You will be primarily responsible for identification and recruitment of potential research participants, and be responsible for the sending out of recruitment materials (via mail). You will be the primary contact for inquiries regarding study protocol and administering the informed verbal consent process. You will be responsible for contacting potential participants for phone screening using IRB approved protocols and scheduling of appointments.

Tracking Research Participants (10%):
It is your responsibility to maintain an accurate tracking system for completing scheduled baseline appointments (and follow-up calls or in-person meetings as needed). You will also update contact information and next-of-kin as needed to help ensure successful brain donation.

Data Collection and Entry (50%):
You will maintain the system used to administer and collect instruments, including scheduling with the MR lab. Conduct participant interviews according to strict study protocol. Administer standardized neuropsychological tests with participants to measure attention, concentration, learning, memory and higher-level thinking skills. Enter data from research instruments and phone data collection into the database according to project protocol. Score neuropsychological evaluations and enter results according to protocol.

Data management (10%):
Populate databases, enter data, clean data and review research for accuracy in multiple database platforms (REDCap and Access software).

Administrative Support and Dissemination (5%):
You will participate in research meetings and provide, in a clear and concise manner, the activities of the project to managers and principal investigators. You will also answer communications from the lead research site regarding updates on local enrollment, case completion, and data issues.

Minimum Requirements:

Two years of college-level course work in a relevant academic area AND one year of appropriate experience OR equivalent education/experience

Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Access, Excel, and Outlook

Excellent writing/communication skills

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

Able to learn and follow detailed standardized neuropsychological testing procedures

Ability to work well independently as well as part of a team

Strong interpersonal communication skills in person and over the phone

Ability and willingness to work with a diverse staff and inpatient population

Desired:

Experience in clinical research highly desired

Excellent writing skills

Two or more years of appropriate experience

Completed CITI certification, FIM Certification

Experience with ORCA and EPIC software

Experience administering psychosocial measures

Experience administering and scoring neuropsychological measures

Basic proficiency in Spanish
