The San Angelo Standard-Times, which traces its rich history back to 1884, is looking for a dynamic leader to oversee the newsroom. The news director will be responsible for a team that includes editors, multimedia reporters and photographers, aiming to provide a steady stream of high quality content while aggressively using data and analysis to drive decisions in covering the topics and issues most important to key audiences.
The news director will coach reporters to make strategic decisions about coverage plans and will direct and champion investigative and First Amendment journalism. As a key link between the Standard-Times and the community, the successful candidate will work to increase the visibility of the news organization in the city.
We want someone who is capable of coaching journalists, building audience, using multimedia effectively and understanding how to use data to shape content. Excellent news judgment and editing skills also are a must. In addition, the news director will work across departments on content initiatives, ranging from new products to native advertising and content sponsorships. The successful candidate will effectively collaborate with the production team and design studio on a daily basis and set the editorial tone and plan content across sections and platforms.
The position requires a bachelor’s degree in journalism and at least five years of experience in writing, editing and news management roles.
