Teaching in SEZP

SEZP is seeking educators who are excited and ready to make an impact in a collaborative, engaging, diverse, and high energy environment. We are seeking educators who believe teachers are activists - promising instructional access, rigor, advocacy, and a tenacious commitment to anti-racism for all students. SEZP teachers are expected to:

  • Create a safe, purposeful classroom environment that prioritizes learning for all students
  • Collaborate with other teachers, instructional leaders, and partners to ensure instruction is meeting the needs of all students
  • Assess students regularly, analyze data, and determine appropriate next steps for instruction
  • Ensure that instruction meets the needs of all students, including students with special needs, English Language Learners, and students performing below grade level
  • Build relationships and communicate regularly with students and their families to solicit input and share academic progress
  • Engage in learning about issues of racism, diversity, equity, and inclusion in education to examine your own biases; reflect on how those biases affect you, your students, and their families; and plan and deliver instruction in a culturally responsive way
  • Participate in and learn from regular professional development opportunities before and during the school year

About Rise Preparatory Academy High School

Rise Prep welcomed its founding 9th grade class in the 2019-20 school year, and will grow to serve 9th-10th graders in the 2020-2021 school year. Rise Prep is a small high school with a focus on preparing students for college or other post-secondary opportunities. Rise Prep offers a challenging, college preparatory curriculum, including English, math, science, history, and foreign language courses. Students will have the opportunity to take honors courses, Advanced Placement courses, and courses for college credit. Students also have the opportunity to participate in elective offerings, extracurricular activities and after school sports. 

 

Because of the small class size, Rise Prep students receive individualized attention and benefit from close relationships with staff. Students and families receive individualized support to plan for post-secondary education and opportunities, including one-on-one assistance with college applications and financial aid applications. Our goal is for 100% of students to graduate high school with a post-secondary plan that supports their life goals. Rise Prep is open to all interested students, with preference given to students currently attending Rise Academy or Van Sickle Academy.

 

 

School Culture Manager Responsibilities:

The School Culture Manager will work to ensure that students demonstrate dramatic student achievement gains and internalize the school’s values. The School Culture Manager will help lead the school’s efforts to create a positive, structured, consistent, caring, and disciplined school culture.

 

Responsibilities of this position may include:

  • Maintain and further develop a joyful, structured, achievement-oriented school culture
  • Provide proactive, daily support to teachers and students to maintain high behavioral expectations
  • Help manage student referrals to the office
  • Support intervention plans and accommodations for students with behavioral difficulties
  • Manage the hallway and other coverage as needed

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university preferred
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience preferred
  • Experience working with students at the middle and/or high school level preferred
  • Experience as an active anti-racist or advocate for equity preferred
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred

SEZP offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience. Staff in SEZP qualify for benefits (personal/sick days, retirement, health insurance, etc.) offered to other employees in the Springfield Public Schools.

 

In addition, there are several opportunities unique to SEZP schools to increase earnings above base salary. While not guaranteed, those opportunities currently include, but are not limited to:

  • Annual stipends for Capstone Projects associated with national-level professional development opportunities, following an application and selection process
  • Empowerment Academies: Intervention and instruction opportunities we implement during February, April, and summer breaks, following an application and selection process
