Overview of Position
The College of Nursing invites candidates with clinical expertise and strong clinical teaching skills to submit applications. The Director of the Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare Center for Clinical Simulation is responsible for managing the simulation component of the curriculum in the College of Nursing. The Director organizes and manages Center activities, staff, equipment and technology used in educational activities within the Center, and collaborates in various internal and external relationships. The duties of this position are broad in scope, requiring strong organizational, communication and instructional skills. The Director is a member of the nursing faculty and reports to the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Programs.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Maintain current knowledge of existing and emerging simulation technologies, practices, and clinical applications

2. Comply with current accepted standards of practice in simulation

3. Develop and provide faculty with instructional tools and training on clinical simulation

4. Provide to faculty and administration on ongoing strategic vision of simulation for the College

5. Facilitate simulation utilization and growth within the College through collaboration with faculty

6. Participate with other faculty in curriculum development, course revisions, and updating of curricular materials, related to simulation

7. Support research in simulation

8. Apply CQI methodologies to the ongoing evaluation and improvement of the Center

9. Continuously evaluate the Center with the future goal of Center accreditation

10. Develop and maintain positive working relationships with faculty and other users of the Center, including other University departments and outside agencies

11. Develop and maintain positive relationships with alumni, donors, and community partners

12. Maintain knowledge and clinical competence in simulation through participation in professional development activities

13. Participate as a member of the larger University community

14. Responsible for needs' assessment and acquisition of capital equipment related to the Center

15. Utilize scheduling patterns that maximize efficient use of the Center, staff, and technology resources; collaborate with administration on scheduling and resource needs

16. Contribute as a team member to the achievement of established department goals and objectives.

17. Ensure compliance with department policies, procedures, quality and safety standards

18. Perform other duties and responsibilities as required, assigned, or requested.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Master's degree in Nursing required; must enroll in doctoral program within 3 years. Current RN licensure required (eligibility for Wisconsin licensure). Three to four years related experience in clinical simulation, preferably in a leadership role. Ability to utilize technology for Simulation lab, classroom, and clinical
instruction; participate as operator of simulations as needed. Experience in teaching/education, instructional design, curriculum development and related healthcare simulation experience. Demonstrated success in operational and financial management of a complex educational environment. Knowledge and expertise in the theory, design, and implementation of simulation in nursing education. Excellent organizational, problem-solving, self-directive, and critical thinking skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Evidence of commitment to professional growth and service which may include, but is not limited to, membership in professional organizations, presenting workshops, attending conferences or training, development of curriculum and instructional materials, production of research. The candidate should be forward thinking and committed to preparing the next generation of nurses for excellence in practice.
