As mission critical employees our efforts directly support the core mission of WTD.  We collaborate firsthand with Operation and Maintenance (O&M) personnel which gives us a unique opportunity to apply our skillset and see the results of our work in real time.  We offer alternative work schedules which can include a hybrid onsite/telework balance.

Be part of a large Capital Project teams representing WTD O&M Engineering as well as lead in-house engineering and design projects.  Producing and maintaining accurate as-built record drawings is also a major responsibility of this workgroup and an essential service to O&M.

Job Duties

  • Act as the plant mechanical engineering technical expert for multiple projects – both internal and external - with emphasis on East Section (South Plant and Offsite) mechanical system maintenance and process improvements
  • Provide plant engineering representation and technical lead support for mechanical aspects of systems and facilities from design through commissioning
  • Participate in review, update, and development of WTD mechanical standards and guide specifications as directed
  • Develop, maintain, and archive engineering documentation in the Engineering Content Management System (ECMS) using current standards
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Working Conditions
  • Work Location:  South Treatment Plant - 1200 Monster Road SW, Renton, WA 98057
  • Work Schedule:  This position is exempt from the overtime provision of the Fair Labor Standard Act (FLSA) and is not overtime eligible.?This full-time position works a 40-hour work week.?? 
  • Union Representation:  This position is represented by Teamsters 117 (Wastewater Treatment Division). 

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience; 
  • Advanced knowledge of mechanical engineering methods and principals. 
  • Experience in detailed mechanical design particularly piping and fluid conveyance systems. 
  • Good working knowledge of wastewater treatment operations and processes. 
  • Self-starter with the ability to identify process/equipment issues and provide suitable alternatives to address. 
  • Ability to create and interpret engineering drawings in conjunction with project engineers, O&M staff, and consultants. 
  • Coordinate and guide the effort to enforce county standards between facilities. 
  • Knowledge, skill, and ability to identify and evaluate cost effective process control change. 
  • Ability to write and edit engineering specifications for mechanical system and equipment. 
  • Strong familiarity with REVIT and AutoCAD usage in design-build projects. 
  • Ability to effectively work with consultants, construction management and internal teams to maintain satisfactory working relationship with staff, peers and supervisors, and to work in a team environment at various sites. 
  • Familiarity with large stand-alone projects in a regional utility including project deployment processes and phases governing design and construction. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Licensing, Certification and Other Requirements 
  • Washington State Driver’s License or the ability to provide transportation to remote work locations with limited or no public transportation may be required.
  • Some positions may require a Washington State professional engineer’s license or land surveyor’s license.
  • Additional licenses, certifications and other requirements determined to be necessary to meet the business needs of the employing unit may be required
