Summary: 

Under the direction of the Nurse Manager or assigned Registered Nurse, provides various patient care duties for the behavioral health patient including: collecting behavioral data, observation and interactions, maintaining patient records, and collaborating with the treatment team regarding treatment planning and implementation. Communicates with the patient's families or guardians as directed. Continuously monitors the patient’s behavior while building positive relationships

 

 

Responsibilities:

1. Provides general patient care support to the nursing unit
2. Collaborates with other members of the Health Care Team
3. Performs customer services related to patient care
4. Monitors the mental status and psychiatric symptoms of the behavioral health patients and makes appropriate interventions.
5. Observes patients who require close observation for suicidal ideation and/or agitated behavior.
6. Facilitates group activities, documents participation, involvement, and response to activity in the EMR.
7. Assists patients by recognizing and modifying behaviors utilizing various therapeutic techniques appropriate to specific patient behaviors.
8. Collects patient information to contribute to assessments, diagnoses, and monitoring treatment effects.
9. Participates in treatment team meetings and follows treatment plans for patients experiencing a range of mental illnesses.
10. Monitors patients’ progress and collabroates with other healthcare professionals regarding treatment plans and implementation
11. As directed, schedules meetings with family members and caregivers to discuss treatment plans and appropriate management techniques.
12. Participates in the orientation of hospital personnel; attends annual education programs to meet the requirements of the Joint Commission and other regulatory agencies.
13. Keeps current with trends, developments, and practices in the field as they relate to this work assignment.

Required:
Possesses one of the following:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology or related field.
• Associate Degree in Psychology or related field and 2 years of mental health of experience or related healthcare experience.
• High school diploma or equivalent and 5 years of mental health experience or related healthcare experience that includes facilitating group activities.
Good interpersonal skills.
Knowledge of group facilitation methods, psychiatric diagnostic methods, and treatment terminology.
Training in Welle or obtains within 90 days of hire.
Possess a current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) or obtains within 90 days of hire.
Ability to work in a team environment while demonstrating good judgment, flexibility, initiative, and effective problem-solving skills.
Ability to interact effectively with a wide range of cultural, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds, which includes the indigent, incarcerated, and homeless.

Preferred:
Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology.
Experience facilitating activity sessions and performing documentation of patient participation.
Familiarity with computers
Previous experience working with the psychiatric patient or developmentally delayed.
Bilingual in Spanish

Physical Demands:
May sit, stand, stoop, bend, and ambulate intermittently during the day.
May need to sit or stand for extended periods.
Requires some exposure to communicable diseases, body fluids, and other hazardous waste.
Requires some exposure to chemicals.
Ability to communicate verbally and writing (utilizing PC)
Exposure to psychotic patients who may exhibit violent/aggressive behavior.
