Summary

The Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention Inmate Accounting office is seeking a detailed oriented individual to fill the current Fiscal Specialist III vacancy.  This position has significant legal and financial responsibility to ensure that State Auditor's Office requirements are met.  Responsibilities include reviewing, monitoring and auditing the intake, disbursement and balancing of funds to ensure adherence to mandated federal, state and local regulations.

Job Duties

The job description is an overview and is intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. It is not to be an exhaustive list of all the functions and tasks required of this position.


  • Collect and process daily inmate trust fund deposits, shift cash reports. 
  • Collect, process and deliver inmate bail and bail bonds. 
  • Post inmate, rewards, Pro Se, and restitution charges. 
  • Process and disburse checks for chains and transferred/released inmates. 
  • Respond to inmate money inquiries and complaints. 
  • Process inmate related Washington State Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) charges and issue payments. 
  • Prepare Forma Pauperis (someone who is without the funds to pursue the normal costs of a lawsuit or a criminal defense), as needed. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned within scope and area of assignment.

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

  • Associate degree in finance/accounting or business administration with an accounting background and 2 years of full-time work experience maintaining and monitoring criminal justice accounting functions or similar complex administrative workload data, including financial data; OR a high school diploma/G.E.D. and 4 years of full-time work experience maintaining and monitoring criminal justice accounting functions or similar complex administrative workload data, including financial data; 
  • Intermediate level of proficiency computer programs (i.e. MS Word, Excel, and Outlook) and possess the ability to utilize various complex computer systems, Jail Management System (JMS), Keefe Banking Systems, Jail Billing Systems, and related database systems/programs to complete daily work; 
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to effectively communicate, both in writing and verbally.
Highly desirable candidates will also have:

  • Bachelor's degree in finance/accounting or business administration with an accounting background and 5 years of full-time work experience maintaining and monitoring criminal justice accounting functions or similar complex administrative workload data, including financial data; OR 7 years of full-time work experience maintaining and monitoring criminal justice accounting functions or similar complex administrative workload data, including financial data.

WORK SCHEDULE:  This is a 40-hour per week, overtime eligible position. Scheduled to work Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This position is overtime eligible.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: It is a hiring requirement that all staff employed by DAJD successfully pass a thorough background investigations process, which includes fingerprinting, criminal history check, a polygraph examination (if applicable), reference checks, and other tests as deemed necessary.
 
 
PREA NOTIFICATION: The Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention (DAJD) follows and maintains federal and state requirements standards including, but not limited to, Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) standards which apply to all public and private institutions that house adult or juvenile offenders. PREA standards preclude the department from hiring or promoting anyone who has engaged in, or been convicted of any conduct which would violate PREA standards related to sexual assault including:
