Position Summary:

UH Connor Whole Health is seeking an enthusiastic, growth oriented acupuncturist who will work to build an acupuncture practice within University Hospitals. The provider must possess strong clinical, communication, and outreach skills as the role also requires work to build the acceptance and utilization of acupuncture within University Hospitals.  This individual will establish a patient base in one or more locations across the University Hospitals Health System.  This individual is expected to provide care in a variety of settings including outpatient offices, group acupuncture settings, and/or inpatient hospital space. 

Essential Duties:

  • Perform high quality, evidence-informed acupuncture treatments and Chinese/Asian medicine procedures on patients.
  • Maintain and follow standard quality, safety, and infection control policies and procedures.
  • Collect medical histories and general health information from patients, and provide informed consent for care.
  • Formulate, recommend and clearly communicate a treatment plan for each patient, including proper point location and needle positions, needle depth, and contraindications.
  • Consider Western medical procedures in health assessment, health care team communication, and referrals.
  • Maintain detailed and complete records of health care plans, treatments and prognosis, utilize EMR for all patient records, and submit billing charges properly.
  • Monitor patient health progress for constant assessment of techniques and procedures needed for their optimal health.
  • Refer to other Connor Whole Health and University Hospitals modalities, providers, and classes when appropriate.
  • Develop relationships with targeted providers and provider groups at University Hospitals to develop their understanding, acceptance, and utilization of acupuncture through communication with referring providers and outreach to providers within select specialties.
  • Collaboration on research projects with Connor Whole Health Research Team.

Experience & Knowledge:

  • Minimum of two years as a practicing acupuncturist; minimum of one year of practice in the State of Ohio preferred
  • Clear understanding of and ability to articulate scientific evidence supporting acupuncture
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to articulate the benefits of acupuncture to new audiences – especially physicians who have not yet utilized acupuncture as a part of the care plan for their patients
  • Knowledge of acupuncture and Chinese/Asian medicine principals, treatments, and procedures – this includes diagnosis, performing acupuncture and Chinese/Asian medicine therapies, and formulating and carrying out treatment plans

 

Special Skills & Equipment Knowledge:

  • Must be able to utilize EMR for charting and all patient records.
  • Skills in customer service, selling, and promoting acupuncture service for maintaining patient satisfaction.

 

Education:

  • Completion of an accredited master’s level program in Acupuncture required

 

Required Credentials, License, and / or Certifications:

  • Current Acupuncture License with the State Medical Board of Ohio strongly preferred
  • Current Acupuncture or Oriental Medicine certification with the National Certification Commission of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) required

 

Position Details/Preferred Qualifications:

Must have at least 2 years of previous Acupuncture experience, as a current certification with the NCCAOM board. Previous work/training in Fertility Acupuncture is strongly preferred. Position is located in Rocky River but is required to work in the Parma office as well. Office hours are from 7:00am-7:00pm so the daily hours will work within those hours: must be flexible. There are also rotating Saturday mornings.
