POSITION #878: Director of Educational Talent Search – Sumiton Campus


APPROXIMATE STARTING DATE: November 2021


GENERAL INFORMATION: Bevill State Community College is an accredited, learning-centered institution dedicated to student success by providing quality educational and training opportunities that enrich lives intellectually, economically, and culturally.


QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum of Master Degree in education, counseling, social work or a closely related field from an institutionally accredited college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Minimum of 5 years’ experience working in education, counseling, social work, or closely related field is required. Preference is given to candidates who have: experience working with TRIO programs or with similar grant-funded academic program; experience with counseling or teaching secondary school students; and a background similar to the target population.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: This position requires the employee to perform the following essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodations: perform data entry operations; operate a motor vehicle; communicate orally; communicate in writing; communicate with auditory skills; capable of mobility; climb and descend steps; sit for extended periods of time; stand for extended periods of time; utilize keyboarding skills; utilize microcomputer and computer terminals; maneuver in small places; bend; kneel; and reach; possess visual ability and manual dexterity; possess basic mathematical skills; operate calculator, copier, fax machine; demonstrate knowledge of the English language, including grammar, word usage, syntax, and sentence structure; utilize telephone system. Comply with all policies of the Alabama Community College System, Board of Trustees, and the College.


SALARY RANGE: Minimum $53,250 - maximum $73,494 based on experience and educational level for placement on Salary Schedule C3 03.


DUTIES: In addition to adhering to the guidelines as specified by Bevill State Community College Personnel Handbook and the Alabama Community College System, duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:
1. Select eligible Talent Search participants.
2. Coordinate the delivery of Talent Search required services, both virtually and in-person, with the TS Advisors to ensure participant success.
3. Maintain an approachable and accessible relationship with participants.
4. Maintain security and confidentiality of participant and project files.
5. Evaluate staff, project and participant performance, and submit performance reports.
6. Authorize project expenditures.
7. Ensure efficient and effective budget management in accordance with EDGAR, Talent Search regulations, BSCC and State of Alabama policies.
8. Supervise a qualified project staff to maximize time and effort.
9. Maintain a beneficial relationship and open communication with target schools.
10. Serve as advocate for disadvantaged students.
11. Assist participants with navigating through the challenges of education.
12. Assist participants with developing proactive academic and career strategies and in setting goals for success.
13. Address academic, personal, career and non-cognitive barriers.
14. Provide academic and career advising and support.
15. Work with project tutors and mentors to assure student success.
16. Implement and execute the Competitive Preference Priorities strategies as outlined in the grant documents.
