NOTICE OF ENTRY LEVEL EXAMINATION PROCEDURE

IMPORTANT:  Applicants must fully comply with ALL requirements and provisions included in this notice. Failure to do so will result in disqualification from further participation in the application and/or employment procedures.

NOTICE: The City Of Sharonville has a vacancy in the classification of Police Department Dispatcher.  This is a full time position.  All application and employment procedures will be administered and monitored by The Sharonville Civil Service Commission.

WAGES AND BENEFITS:  Wages and benefits are very competitive.  Current pay range is $23.44 per hour to $29.93 per hour.  Benefits will be discussed during the interview process. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Each applicant MUST (1) be at least 18 years of age as of the final date for submission of applications for employment (see below), AND (2) have attained a high school diploma or equivalency (GED).

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:  The application for employment must clearly demonstrate the applicant’s compliance with all minimum qualifications included in the above paragraph and/or the minimum qualifications included in the attached job description.  Applications that do not clearly demonstrate compliance with all minimum qualifications in this notice and included in the attached job description will not be processed.

APPLICATION DATES AND PROCEDURE: Beginning on the Notice Posting Date at the top of this Notice Of Entry Level Examination Procedure, applications for employment MUST be completed and submitted through the City Of Sharonville web site at https://www.sharonville.org (click on “How Do I” then click on “Apply For”).  Applicants can only submit applications for employment by closely and completely following all instructions and requirements of the Job Opportunities Portal.  All applications for employment and all required supporting documentation MUST be submitted through the Job Opportunities Portal.  Applications for employment and/or required supporting documentation submitted by U S Postal Service mail, any other delivery service, fax, e-mail, electronically, hand delivery, etc. will not be processed.  All applications for employment and other required documentation must be received through the Job Opportunities Portal no later than 11:59 PM on December 28, 2020

WRITTEN EXAMINATION:  Applicants who timely submit an application for employment as described above must take a written examination.  The written examination will be conducted at the Sharonville Community Center, 10990 Thornview Drive, Sharonville, Ohio 45241 on January 5, 2021 at 6:00 PM.  A registration table in the examination facility will be located in the examination room and will open at 5:00 PM.  Applicants must report at the registration table PRIOR TO 6:00 PM.  Late arrivals will not be admitted.  However, the Sharonville Civil Service Commission may permit an applicant who arrives late to take a provisional examination only when certain unavoidable conditions (excess traffic, inclement weather, closed streets, natural disasters, etc.) cause an applicant or group of applicants to arrive late.  A current valid picture ID is required for admittance.  Small calculator-only devices are permitted.  Cell phones cannot be used as a calculator.  Arrival at least 15 minutes before the time that the examination is scheduled to begin will enable you to read the instructions and reduce the time before all applicants are permitted to begin the exam.  Pencils for marking the answer form will be provided.  THIS IS THE ONLY NOTICE OF THE WRITTEN EXAMINATION DATE, TIME, AND LOCATION THAT YOU WILL RECEIVE.

SAFETY NOTICE:  Applicants must wear a face mask when they arrive at the examination facility and continue to wear a face mask until the actual written examination begins.  Applicants who are exhibiting any symptoms related to the COVID-19 virus or other contagious disease will not be permitted to participate in the written examination procedure.

PASSING SCORE: Each candidate’s employment eligibility requires the achievement of a passing score of 70% or greater for the written examination.  Applicants who achieve a passing score will be placed on an eligible list ranked by final score.  Final scores listed on the eligible list will include any extra credit as described in a following paragraph.  Employment eligibility will be subject to Ohio Civil Service Law and/or The Rules And Regulations Of The Sharonville Civil Service Commission.  If two or more applicants achieve identical written examination passing scores, applicants will be listed on the eligible list in order of the earliest time and date that their application for employment was received.  In some situations, federal law requires veterans or national guard members to be ranked highest when two or more applicants achieve identical written examination passing scores.

EXTRA CREDIT:  Extra credit will be added to each applicant’s written examination passing score of 70% or greater for ONE of the following: (1) military credit of 20% of the passing score to candidates who provide a military service DD-214 form confirming an honorable discharge, OR (2) educational credit of 10% of the passing score for a bachelor’s degree or above, OR (3) educational credit of 5% of the passing score for an associate degree.  IMPORTANT: Copies of degree substantiation documents or DD-214 forms MUST BE SUBMITTED WITH THE APPLICATION FOR EMPLOYMENT or extra credit will not be applied.  Applicants must provide all required copies.  Copy service is not available.

EMPLOYMENT OFFER: Subsequent to an offer of employment, and prior to beginning employment, candidates may be subject to a background check, verification of prior employment, assessment of job-related skills, a physical fitness examination, and/or a drug/alcohol screen.

ACCOMMODATION:  Any applicant who requires any special accommodation(s) for any phase of the application/examination procedure must attach to his/her application for employment a written request that clearly indicates a complete description of any requested accommodation and the specific reason(s) for any requested accommodation.  If any requested accommodation is for any type of medical condition, a statement from a doctor or other medical practitioner that generally describes the medical condition and the requested accommodation MUST be attached to the application for employment.  Such medical statement must be dated no more than one year prior to the submission date of the application for employment. EXAMINATION PROCEDURE ADMINISTRATION:  All provisions of this Notice Of Entry Level Examination Procedure including any and all testing procedures will be administered and monitored by The Sharonville Civil Service Commission.

Essential Functions

1. Answer department phones; answer incoming calls; determine nature of calls; gather pertinent information for emergency calls, calm callers, and transmit data to patrol officer via radio or Mobile Data Computer (MDC); answer routine requests for information or route calls to appropriate person. Keeping official records and assisting in the administration of the standard operating policies and procedures of the dispatch areas of responsibility.

2. Maintain radio contact with patrol officers on duty; obtain criminal history and driving status upon request; answer questions; route and relay pertinent information. Dispatch police and other response vehicles for emergency and non-emergency responses; broadcast nature, location, and time of incident. Contact all required personnel and other local concerns such as the fire department in the event of an emergency situation. Call out additional officers and on-call personnel as identified through practice and at an on duty supervisor's direction.

3. Notifies supervisory personnel of any emergency situation or condition which would require the reassignment of additional officers to provide for the public safety (i.e., notifies the shift commander of any major incident or natural disaster).

4. First contact for visitors to the department; greet visitors, determine reason for visit; provide general information or route questions to appropriate person; notify officials of visitors; direct visitors to appropriate places; etc.

5. Records management; log incoming calls and dispatches; record and enter traffic citations, case report, auto accident and arrest information for the department into computer systems; maintain records for police department activity; maintain towed vehicle files, property records, etc.; complete monthly validations of criminal record entries.

6. Generate reports from computer files as needed according to established formats.

7. Enter and confirm warrants; maintain active warrant file.

8. Notify officers of Hamilton and Butler County Municipal as well as Sharonville Mayor's Court appearances, and maintain records for same.

9. Take payouts, continuances and bonds for Mayor's Court in the absence of court personnel.
