Paraprofessional: The Gateway School District has vacancies for permanent, full-time paraprofessional, location(s) to be determined, starting in the 2023-24 school year. The Paraprofessional position includes, but is not necessarily limited to, assisting teachers in the education and training of special education students. The paraprofessional’s role is to increase the potential effectiveness of the professional and increase the quality of instruction by freeing the teacher from the non-instructional activities of the classroom. Description
To help establish and maintain a calm and pleasant atmosphere in the cafeteria so that students may find mealtime a time to unwind from the tasks of the morning and refresh for the tasks of the afternoon.
- Organizes students into orderly lines for purchasing food, and ensures that they go to assigned tables, if applicable
- Helps students develop and observe proper dining habits, both in terms of etiquette and nutrition
- Assists younger students with use of utensils when needed
- Organizes groups for orderly disposal of food waste, trays and utensils
- Organizes groups for orderly dismissal from the lunchroom
- Circulates among the tables during the meal period so as to be available to help children who need help and resolve any minor problems that arise
- Informs any attending teacher and or principal at once of any serious infraction of disciplinary rules by students
- Calls immediately for an attending teacher in the event of any argument involving more than two students; any incident involving physical confrontation; and any incident that appears to be of more than a momentary disruption.
- Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentially of information about students as is expected of fully certified professional employees.
Requirements

Position Title: Staff Nurse
Location: Multiple Locations Available
Reports To: Building Principals and School Nurses
Term: 10 month, follows student calendar
Pay Rate (FY23-24): $25.63 per hour
Minimum Qualifications:
- Current Pennsylvania credentials as a Registered Nurse or as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
- Clearances - Current Child Abuse (Act 151), FBI (Act 114) and Criminal Record (Act 34) required
Goals:
A staff nurse works under the direction of the School Nurse to assist the school nurse in providing care and maintain records for all students in the school, while adhering to strict confidentiality statues. Staff Nurse is a paraprofessional position as defined by the Department of Education, Bureau of Certification CSPG No. 107 and assists the District’s Health Services staff in performing those duties as assigned.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Checks emergency cards and verifies that a card is filed for each student and that all information is completed and the card is properly signed.
- Reviews all emergency cards and compiles and updates listings of (A) students having conditions that classroom teachers, special teachers and administrators should be aware of and (B) students with exceptions to the standing orders.
- Assists School Nurse in screening for pediculosis according to Commonwealth Guidelines.
- Assists School Nurse with student height and weight growth screenings.
- Administers first aid and serves cases of illness in compliance with Policy and Standing Orders.
- Dispenses medication according to District policy and procedures as defined and directed by the school physician and with the approval of the School Nurse.
- Performs required monitoring of various health impairments as directed by the School Nurse in a proper and timely manner.
- Initiates accident reports where appropriate, notifies School Nurse and Administration and files such reports according to standard procedure.
- Initiates and maintains student health records in a current and timely manner and alerts the School Nurse to any known or potential problems. Data shall include information from physical, dental, and immunization forms and any known changes in health status.
- Alerts School Nurse to any known or suspected student health problems as may be identified in a timely manner.
- Organizes and maintains yearly workbooks according to accepted practice.
- Assists with Physical and Dental examinations by:
- Distributing forms: Requests for School to Provide Examination Notification of Appointment Time
- Preparation of students for exam as directed by supervisor
- Completing clerical work as directed by Physician/Dentist
- Performing other appropriate activities as requested by Physician, Dentist or School Nurse
- Assists as directed by the School Nurse with auditory/visual screening.
- Assists as directed by the School Nurse/Physician with scoliosis screening.
- Prepares materials for bulletin boards, exhibits, and displays as directed by School Nurse/Principal.
- Assists the School Nurse/Principal with the care, storage and inventory of equipment and supplies.
- Maintains confidentiality of all information relating to students and employees according to the strictest standards.
- Performs other related duties as may be directed by the School Nurse, Supervisor of Special Pupil Services, School Physician/Dentist or Building Administrator.

An instructional paraprofessional is a school employee who works under the direction of a certificated staff member to support and assist in providing instructional programs and services to children with disabilities or eligible young children.
